Sony reveals Franchise Rewards, a new program that lets players access and purchase exclusive merchandise if they have certain in-game trophies unlocked. PlayStation is attempting to make trophy collecting more rewarding for players, starting the program off with the massively popular samurai action game, Ghost of Tsushima.
After creating iconic franchises like Sly Cooper and Infamous, Sucker Punch Productions surprised a lot of fans by showcasing a big, open world game set in Feudal Japan, adding its own narrative spin on the real world events surrounding the first Mongol invasion of Japan. Ghost of Tsushima would go on to become a huge success, getting a PS5 port as well as launching on PC to further expand its player base. Even with a spiritual successor on the way, Ghost of Tsushima is spearheading a new Sony program.

PlayStation Franchise Rewards Starts With Ghost of Tsushima
In a new blog post, Sony reveals a new program called Franchise Rewards. Kicking things off with Ghost of Tsushima, players can gain access to exclusive merchandise provided they have certain in-game trophies unlocked. In this case, players who have the Mono No Aware or Living Legend trophies for Ghost of Tsushima can purchase exclusive and limited-edition merchandise at the Ghost Rewards store. In this case, the rewards are a commemorative pin of Jin Sakai's mask and a shirt with a design based on the island of Tsushima.
Ghost of Tsushima appears to be just the start for Franchise Rewards, as Sony confirmed that the reward system will be expanding to Ghost of Yotei later this year, though no further details were provided. Considering PlayStation Stars is shutting down, it's possible that Franchise Rewards could be the program that takes its place. For now, it's a bit unclear, but if this becomes popular, it stands to reason that future PlayStation titles could be included into this.
Response to the new program has largely been mixed, as many players seem to be a bit annoyed that the trophies simply unlock the right to purchase the rewards. It's possible things could change over time since this is the start of the new program, but for now, it is what it is. Still, it doesn't seem to dampen any of the excitement for Sucker Punch's upcoming game, as Ghost of Yotei is set to launch in a little over a week on October 2.
