Summary
- PlayStation Plus offers a wide range of games, including popular trilogies like Batman: Arkham, God of War, and BioShock.
- These trilogies provide a complete and immersive gaming experience, with each game building upon its predecessor and offering a sense of progression.
- While some of these trilogies may show their age in terms of gameplay, they are still highly regarded for their storytelling, characters, and immersive worlds.
PlayStation Plus has a massive library of games covering multiple console generations, starting from the PS1 and ending with the PS5. If someone subscribes to PS Plus Premium, they can play roughly 700 titles; meanwhile, Extra members have hundreds of PS4 and PS5 games at their fingertips. The service also covers its genre bases, covering everything from child-friendly platformers to violent and intense horror games.
While not lacking in standalone releases, PS Plus has plenty of franchises for subscribers who want to immerse themselves in a specific license or universe fully. This selection includes a few of the greatest video game trilogies of all time, and while most of them have been out for a while, they hold up beautifully.
To qualify as a trilogy, the games must be connected either conceptually or narratively. If the franchise has produced other entries, a trilogy will only be considered if it feels complete, which is why Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection has been omitted since Uncharted 4 cannot be ignored.

Rocksteady's Arkham series changed the gaming industry. The franchise's free-flowing combat has been duplicated by many other properties, but few come close to replicating the magic of Rocksteady's projects. While Arkham Origins is not on PS Plus, Premium subscribers can play Rocksteady's full trilogy, starting with Arkham Asylum and concluding with Arkham Knight.
Each entry builds upon its predecessor's gameplay, story beats, characters, and world design, giving the trilogy a notable sense of progression. While more self-contained and streamlined than its successors, Arkham Asylum is nevertheless fantastic, and some might even argue it represents the trilogy's peak. Arkham City went full open-world, a decision that resulted in most positives despite some added bloated. Fine-tuning the combat system while presenting arguably the best story within the trilogy, this entry is generally regarded as the franchise's peak, and it is well deserved. Arkham Knight is more polarizing than its predecessors due to its implementation of the batmobile, which is overexposed; however, the game also features a great open-world and the strongest combat in the trilogy.
PS Plus has the Return to Arkham versions of Asylum and Arkham City. While these remasters have their shortcomings, they are PS4 games, so they do not need to be streamed like PS3 titles.
God Of War Trilogy
A PlayStation Epic

God of War God of War II God of War III Released 2005-03-22 2007-03-13 2010-03-16 Developer(s) Santa Monica Studio Santa Monica Studio Santa Monica Studio Genre(s) Hack and Slash Action Action, Adventure How Long To Beat 9 Hours 12 Hours 10 Hours PS Plus Availability Premium (HD Version) Premium (HD Version) Premium (Remastered) Metascore 94 93 92
Even though PS Plus has five God of War games, the PS2 and PS3 numbered trilogy tells a complete story that works well in isolation, even if 2013's Ascension does add some nuance to Kratos' backstory. Inspired by Greek Mythology, Santa Monica's PlayStation-exclusive franchise depicts Kratos's rise and fall as the God of War, culminating in his blood-soaked attack on the deities that used him.
All three God of War games follow identical gameplay loops that blend hack-and-slash combat with lite platforming and puzzles. The sequels are better paced than the first game in the series, but the latter makes up for that by telling the most engaging chapter of Kratos's Greek Mythology era. In terms of pure spectacle, God of War is the best trilogy on PS Plus Premium, with each entry building on the last as the series gradually ramps up its scale.
Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection
Dated But Nevertheless Special

Assassin's Creed 2 Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Assassin's Creed Revelations Released 2009-11-07 2010-11-16 2011-11-15 Developer(s) Ubisoft Ubisoft Ubisoft Montreal Genre(s) Action, Adventure Action, Adventure Open-World, Action How Long To Beat 19 Hours 16 Hours 13 Hours Metascore 91 90 80
PS Plus Extra has quite a few Assassin's Creed games, including modern sequels like Odyssey and Valhalla. As the franchise has progressed, Ubisoft has deemphasized the entries' interconnectivity and modern timeline in favor of telling relatively self-contained stories. As such, newcomers can jump into any Assassin's Creed game and not feel like they are missing out on too much context.
Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection is often cited as the franchise's peak, at least during its pre-Origins era. As the title suggests, this trilogy covers Ezio Auditore da Firenze's entire life as he grows from a brash young assassin to a world-weary veteran burdened by responsibility and guilt. Set in Italy during the Renaissance, the games deliver well-written characters and immersive open-worlds while telling a coherent story driven by a protagonist who grows a lot throughout their journey.
While still considered high points for the series, Assassin's Creed 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations show their ages quite a bit, and their gameplay and controls are not great when compared to post-Unity entries.
BioShock Trilogy
Complex In More Ways Than One

BioShock BioShock 2 BioShock Infinite Released 2007-08-21 2010-02-09 2013-03-26 Developer(s) Irrational Games 2K, Irrational Games Irrational Games Genre(s) FPS First-Person Shooter Shooter How Long To Beat 12 Hours 12 Hours 12 Hours PS Plus Availability Premium (Remastered) Premium (Remastered) Premium (Complete Edition) Metascore 96 88 94
BioShock is such a weird trilogy, at least in terms of reputation. The original title is rightfully hailed as one of the best games of the 2000s, and its themes, atmosphere, level design, and setting are just as impressive nowadays as they were in 2007. While never great, the gunplay was enhanced through the additions of plasmids, which at least provided some novelty to distract from the otherwise by-the-numbers action. Still, BioShock shines in every other department besides combat.
Conversely, BioShock 2 is largely worth playing due to its combat, which is far more explosive and satisfying than either its predecessor or successor. Narratively, the sequel tends to be overlooked and treated as something of a copycat, primarily due to Rapture being reused as the main setting; however, thematically, the game introduces fresh concepts and ideologies that complement the first game's storyline.
Finally, there is BioShock Infinite, a game that was labeled a masterpiece at launch but garnered a fair amount of criticism over the next decade. The vanilla content is largely disconnected from the previous entries in the trilogy, all the while exploring new themes for the franchise. However, the expansions link Infinite to the original BioShock.
Infamous' Cole MacGrath Trilogy

Sucker Punch has moved away from Infamous, but at least all five games are on PS Plus. The Extra tier has Infamous Second Son and First Light, which make for a solid double-feature; meanwhile, Premium subscribers can experience Cole MacGrath's complete PS3 journey. Infamous leads directly into its sequel, which continues Cole's growth as a hero (or villain) while building upon the protagonist's powers and abilities.
Admittedly, this trilogy includes a filler arc since Festival of Blood is a non-canon expansion that throws vampires into the mix. While not adding anything to Cole's narrative, the game is nonetheless a lot of fun and provides a couple of neat twists on the protagonist's abilities.

Ratchet & Clank Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal Released 2016-04-12 2003-11-11 2004-11-02 Developer(s) Insomniac Games Insomniac Games Insomniac Games Genre(s) Platformer Third-Person Shooter, Platformer Shooter, Platformer How Long To Beat 10 Hours 13 Hours 12 Hours PS Plus Availability Premium Premium Premium Metascore 85 90 91
Insomniac Games' Ratchet & Clank continues to produce gold for PlayStation consoles, with 2021's Rift Apart ranking among the PS5's greatest exclusives. However, an argument could be made that the franchise peaked with the original trilogy on the PS2. Ratchet & Clank is a platformer series that focuses heavily on third-person shooter action, with each game containing an arsenal of creative weapons that are a joy to control and master.
That description accurately reflects all three games in the original Ratchet & Clank trilogy, along with the PS4 remake of the first entry since that is the version available on PS Plus Premium. Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal are typically regarded as the best Ratchet & Clank games of all time, and they are just as fun today as they were in the 2000s.
