PlayStation Plus has really stepped up its game this year. Dragon Age: The Veilguard was one of PS Plus' monthly games in March 2025, Balatro hit the service in May, Diablo 4 arrived in July, and August gave subscribers Lies of P. It's been a great year for PlayStation Plus, but the onslaught of great games isn't stopping just yet.
In fact, PS Plus is getting ready to kick things up a gear next month, with PlayStation Plus' September 2025 line-up set to include one of the most beloved indie games of all time: Stardew Valley. But while Stardew Valley is undoubtedly the heaviest hitter in this month's line-up, it's far from the only title worthy of the player's time.
All of PlayStation Plus' September 2025 Monthly Games Are Worthwhile Experiences
Stardew Valley Is a Farming Sim That Needs No Introduction
Widely regarded as one of the best games ever made, Stardew Valley is heading to PS Plus' Essential tier this September, and it's obviously the biggest pull of the month. A 2016 social and farming sim with an oft-imitated pixel art style, Stardew Valley continues to garner acclaim from both fans and critics alike, with its gameplay loop keeping many players invested for hundreds of hours. Stardew Valley's spot on PS Plus' September 2025 line-up is a huge deal for those who haven't played the game before, and for long-time fans looking to own the title on yet another platform.
But Stardew Valley is just one of three new PlayStation Plus monthly games this September, and the other two deserve just as much of a spotlight.
Psychonauts 2 Is a Colorful Action-Platformer With a Lot of Charm
All the way back in 2000, Tim Schafer and a handful of LucasArts colleagues left the company to form their own development studio. Under the new banner Double Fine, Schafer and his team began work on Psychonauts, a 2005 action-platformer that revolved around the titular group of psychic spies. With a unique brand of humor and colorful cast of characters at its forefront, Psychonauts earned a very positive critical reception, though its sales didn't meet publisher Majesco's expectations.
Despite lukewarm sales, Psychonauts became something of a cult classic, and fans' desire for a sequel remained strong for well over a decade. In 2015, Double Fine announced that it planned to begin development on Psychonauts 2, and it raised over $3 million via crowdfunding. The sequel was officially released in August 2021, where, much like the original, it received a very strong critical reception.
Psychonauts 2's writing received the loudest praise, with the game tackling some weighty themes in a light, yet sophisticated way. The sequel's combat was deemed a little disappointing, but its elaborate level design and eye-popping art style brought many critics back around. By all accounts, Psychonauts 2 is a stand-out platformer that should be played by all fans of the genre, and PS Plus is handing them the keys.
Psychonauts 2 is about 10–15 hours long, making it the perfect game for a few long weekend play sessions.
Viewfinder Is a Short, Sweet, and Mind-Bending Puzzle Game
Released back in July 2023, Viewfinder is a first-person puzzle game that revolves around the player bringing the subject of images into the game world. For instance, one level sees the player needing to cross a gap between two platforms. They find a printed picture of a bridge, and need to hold that picture up so that it aligns with the two platforms. The bridge is then mapped onto the game world, and the player can use it to cross to the other side. Viewfinder may only last about four hours, but those four hours remain riveting from start to finish, with players being given more complicated puzzles and more elaborate ways to solve them the further the game progresses.
Though Stardew Valley is more than deserving of its flowers, its fellow PlayStation Plus' September 2025 monthly games shouldn't be overlooked. Stardew Valley, Psychonauts 2, and Viewfinder offer a ton of variety, both in terms of gameplay and presentation, and as a trifecta, they offer one of the strongest months PS Plus has had this year.
