Sony launched the new era of PlayStation Plus in June 2022, combining the previous version with PS Now. Although the latter subscription service was around for a long time, PS Now struggled to get over its early negative reputation, so a revamp was needed to wipe the slate clean. PS Plus has been way more successful and reliable.
PS Plus is split into three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Essential unlocks PlayStation's online features, along with providing a couple of free monthly games. Along with Essential's offerings, Extra grants access to hundreds of PS5 and PS4 games; meanwhile, Premium extends the lineup to include older consoles. Each month, Sony adds a bunch of new PS Plus games to each tier, including first-party PS5 exclusives, third-party juggernauts, PS VR2 games, and indie darlings. Free PS Plus Essential Games For January 2026
Need for Speed Unbound (PS5), Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed (PS5/PS4), Core Keeper (PS5/PS4)
These games are available from January 6, 2025, to February 2, 2026.
The PlayStation Plus free games lineup for January 2026 is nothing too special and has garnered a fair amount of criticism, but all three games are decent in their own right. The main attraction is probably Need for Speed Unbound, which is a solid open-world racer with great arcade-style controls. EA's title has been out for more than three years and was previously available as part of PS Plus Extra, so it is a bit difficult to get too excited about its inclusion. Still, if you don't own it, this is a good opportunity to change that.
Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is probably the most exciting inclusion, especially since the remake came out fairly recently in 2024. As a puzzle-platformer with a cool painting mechanic, the game is unique and charming, and I'd definitely recommend it even if you have already played the original. Core Keeper ends the lineup, and it is a fantastic indie sandbox survival game.

PS Plus Extra includes a catalog featuring hundreds of games. Extra focuses exclusively on PS5 and PS4 titles, and each month expands the existing library with roughly 10 to 20 new additions. Unlike Essential, PS Plus Extra games are available indefinitely, although some could be removed after spending a few months on the service.
PS Plus Extra January 2026 Games Lineup: Resident Evil Village, Infinite Wealth, & More
Before proceeding, we should mention that Sony will no longer include PS4-only games each month, with new arrivals being intermittent. While disappointing, that is the decision that has been made.
If the PS Plus Essential selection was somewhat disappointing, the Extra and Premium tiers should make up for it. The lineup has two major names: Resident Evil Village and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. These are absolutely huge additions that instantly elevate their respective genres, and the former is particularly exciting since Resident Evil Requiem will debut at the end of February 2026. Village isn't exactly the greatest entry for complete newcomers, but you should still give it a try if you want action horror rather than just pure terror. The campaign can be completed in under 15 hours, so it isn't that much of an investment.
Comparatively, Infinite Wealth will dominate your life for months, with a campaign that lasts more than 50 hours without taking into account all the optional content. Like Village, Infinite Wealth is mostly for fans of the franchise who have been around for decades; that said, it is such a great turn-based RPG that it is still worth trying. If you want to go on a way harder journey, you can also try Darkest Dungeon 2, the divisive sequel to one of the greatest turn-based RPGs of the last decade.
Those two games are definitely the highlights, but the rest of the lineup is by no means bad. Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is a sim driving title that comes with a fairly steep learning curve, and there are very few games like it on PS Plus. A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead isn't a brilliant horror game by any stretch of the imagination, but fans of the movies should give it a try. It isn't terrible either.
The Exit 8, A Little to the Left, and Art of Rally complete the selection, and they are all brilliant indie titles.

PS Plus Premium includes everything available on Sony's service. Along with Essential and Extra's games and benefits, this tier includes a classic catalog of PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games, along with some PS4 remasters. Premium's monthly additions have been inconsistent so far, and it is not unusual for a month to go by with barely any classic additions to the tier.
Although most lineups contain only a handful of classics, PS Plus Premium has been steadily enhancing its old-school library, particularly when it comes to PSP and PS1 releases. The games might not all be bona fide masterpieces, but the selection covers both well-known and obscure properties.
