Just a few weeks after its last State of Play, which was entirely dedicated to IO Interactive's 007 First Light, PlayStation has now confirmed that another event will take place later this week. Rumors of a new PlayStation State of Play event have been circulating for the past couple of weeks, but now Sony has finally made it official and announced a 35-minute event filled with updates and reveals. The studio has also confirmed that there will be an extended look at Saros from Housemarque during the event.
Following the huge success of the PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal, released in 2021, Housemarque unveiled its next IP, Saros, during a State of Play in February 2025. Although this is not a direct sequel to Returnal, as many were anticipating, Housemarque did confirm that the new title builds upon the gameplay and narrative style from the 2021 roguelike, but with a few key changes. Upon its reveal earlier this year, Housemarque explained that, unlike Returnal, Saros will allow players to choose and permanently upgrade their loadout from an evolving set of weapons and suit upgrades in order to "come back stronger."
Nintendo Switch Exclusive Coming to PlayStation on October 9
A Nintendo Switch exclusive is scheduled to reach PlayStation consoles on October 9, nearly two years following its original release.
PlayStation State of Play Coming September 24
PlayStation fans who have been patiently waiting to see more from Saros following its announcement earlier this year will be pleased to know that Housemarque will be showing off 5 minutes of gameplay during this week's State of Play event. In a new blog post, PlayStation confirmed that another State of Play event will take place on Wednesday, September 24, at 2PM PT / 5PM ET / 11PM CEST. The studio announced that fans can expect 35 minutes of reveals and news from developers around the world. The event will also feature new looks at anticipated third-party and indie titles, as well as updates from some of the teams at PlayStation Studios.
Aside from confirmation that Saros will appear at the event, all other titles remain a mystery. But, with that being said, this is the video game industry, so of course, there have been plenty of leaks and rumors. According to industry insiders and journalists, the long-awaited Marvel's Wolverine may finally appear at this week's State of Play event. Although it hasn't been confirmed by either PlayStation or Insomniac, it has been four agonizingly long years since the superhero title was first revealed. Outside of some unfortunate leaks, there hasn't been a peep about the game since. But if rumors are to be believed, that may finally be about to change.
The year may be coming to a close, but there are still plenty of titles and DLCs that could appear during the next State of Play. The PlayStation 5 version of STALKER 2 is set to release on November 30, so an appearance during the September 24 event seems highly likely. There's also the chance that fans receive one final look at Ghost of Yotei, undoubtedly the biggest PS5 exclusive of the year, ahead of its October 2 release. And with Resident Evil Requiem coming early next year, many are also hoping for another trailer.
