In Path of Exile 2, players can enlist certain enemies to their minion army by using the Bind Spectre Skill. Similar to Tame Beast, this Skill turns enemies into allies in exchange for a certain reservation of Spirit.

Knowing what the best spectres to recruit to your army are is crucial information to have for any player interested in seriously gunning for the endgame of PoE 2. Since Spirit is hard to come by, and experimenting with every single possible spectre is both time-consuming and resource-intensive, not every player has the ability to do the testing on their own.

S Tier Spectres in Path of Exile 2

Frozen Mandibles

Affectionately dubbed the Cocaine Ant, the Frozen Mandibles is hands down the best spectre in all of Path of Exile 2. It has some of the best damage scaling among spectres, moves faster than lightning even without any buffs, and offers excellent single-target damage. The Frozen Mandibles also fire off four icy bombs on the ground that explode after a brief delay, dealing cold damage.

Powered Zealots

  • Reservation: 55 Spirit
  • Location: Etched Ravine (Interludes)

Powered Zealots offer incredible map clear thanks to their lightning projectiles that deal AoE damage. Better yet, their lightning skill hits the same enemy multiple times when paired with the Pierce Support Gem, making them as good at single-target damage as they are at map clear.

A Tier Spectres in Path of Exile 2

Vaal Guards

  • Reservation: 50 Spirit
  • Location: Utzaal (Act 3)

Vaal Guards have some of the best map clear in Path of Exile 2 due to their ability to cover entire screens with grenade explosions. Since the grenades qualify as Attacks, Support Gems like Scatter Shot work with them as well, allowing players to increase the AoE even further. Vaal Guards always use grenades to attack, making it easy to build around their consistent damage, unlike other spectres that have multiple skills that fire off randomly.

Cultist Archers

  • Reservation: 60 Spirit
  • Location: Freythorn (Act 1)

Cultist Archers are great long-range damage-dealing units to add to your spectre army, as they have essentially the same range as the Ranger class, and with the right build, nearly comparable damage. Their special ability is creating a poison flower that explodes after a brief delay, dealing damage. With enough Cultist Archers on the field, they can cover the entire screen with these flowers, offering respectable AoE.

B Tier Spectres in Path of Exile 2

Wardrum Kin

  • Reservation: 64 Spirit
  • Location: Isle of Kin (Act 4), Volcanic Warrens (Act 4)

Wardrum Kin have some of the best area of effect damage in the game. Their main attack is beating their drums to create a damaging AoE around themselves. With an entire army of Wardrum Kin at your disposal, this has some insane damage potential. The reason they are in B Tier is because of their movement, which is absolutely abysmal. The only realistic way to use them in mapping is by using the warp tech (weapon swapping), which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Twilight Order Oathsworn

  • Reservation: 57 Spirit
  • Location: Arastas (Act 4)

The Twilight Order Oathsworn are mages that fire a golden beam of light at an enemy, dealing some great damage. What makes them a great option to build your army around is the fact that the laser has auto-tracking, meaning it follows whichever enemy it locks onto. These spectres are built to take down difficult bosses in PoE 2, as the laser absolutely melts them in seconds with the proper investment. For AoE, players can slot in the Wildshards Support Gem to turn the single beams into area attacks, aiding in map clear.

Ancestral Channeler

  • Reservation: 59 Spirit
  • Location: Halls of the Dead (Act 4)

The Ancestral Channeler summons small orb-like minions around itself that all shoot ice projectiles when they detect any enemies nearby. While not the fastest or the tankiest of spectres, they can output some insane cold damage with a proper build, as the minion projectiles can stack quite a bit. Unfortunately, the Ancestral Channelers are extremely slow and have very low HP, making them vulnerable to being taken out by random terrain effects and boss moves.

Gargantuan Wasps

  • Reservation: 84 Spirit
  • Location: Arastas (Act 4), Ashen Forest (Interludes)

Gargantuan Wasps serve as excellent supplementary units to your minion army thanks to great movement speed and the inherent ability to fly, which allows them to ignore terrain barriers to reach pesky enemies that like to stay on the sidelines. Their damage on their own isn’t anything impressive, but their movement allows them to get more hits in, which results in overall better DPS than other minions, which are better on paper.
