A Pokemon fan has shared some incredible blasts to the past in a form of crisp, unused coupons for the series from decades ago. The sight of the Pokemon coupons has brought back a lot of fond memories for fans, and also has some missing some of the older Pokemon series entries that have been left in the past.
Some fans may find it hard to believe, but Pokemon is beginning the countdown to its 30th anniversary. The series originated way back in 1996, and the landscape of gaming has changed a lot during that time. Nowadays, Nintendo often surprises fans by releasing games the same day that they're announced, with digital downloads allowing users to immediately score a copy of the game. Back in the 1990s, though, players almost always had to set foot in a retail store for new titles, and these coupons could have come in handy back in the day.

A Pokemon fan going by Mean-Relief-1830 on Reddit shared a post with images of Pokemon coupons they'd uncovered from the '90s that still look brand-new. Three uncut coupons offer $5 off for three different Pokemon entries, with the first for the N64's Pokemon Snap, the second for any of the first three Pokemon Game Boy games, and the last for Pokemon Stadium. The coupons have generated a ton of nostalgia for fans in the comments, not only for the early days of the Pokemon series, but because the coupons were specifically for Electronics Boutique. Electronics Boutique merged with GameStop way back in 2005, which spelled an end for stores in the US and Canada. The coupons themselves expired in 2000.
Pokemon Fans Wax Nostalgic
Many fans seem to be experiencing a blast to the past looking at these coupons. A few have mentioned missing the Pokemon Stadium series, which hasn't received a new entry since 2001. Thankfully, Pokemon Stadium has been brought back via Nintendo Switch Online, so it's at least playable again on modern systems. Pokemon Snap has also seen a revival on the Nintendo Switch after years of fans pleading for a new one. Others pointed out that the coupons would be worth nearly $10 in today's money, given inflation.
While many fans miss this era of Pokemon, the good thing is that the series is still going strong after all this time. Fans are eagerly awaiting news of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which is still slated to release sometime in 2025. Meanwhile, titles like Pokemon GO, Pokemon TCG Pocket, the ongoing anime, and various media releases and events keep the series at the forefront even between major core series entries.
