Summary

  • Pokemon introduces a 5 ft long Arcanine plush for mega-fans, costing $449.99 and available for pre-order.
  • Previous giant Pokemon plush releases like Snorlax and Lucario have been successful among fans.
  • Despite hefty price tag and exclusive availability, Arcanine's plush popularity reflects its lasting impact on fans.

Pokemon has launched a massive plush toy of Arcanine, the Fire-type canine Pokemon. The plush is almost five feet long, and will definitely make an impact on the average Pokemon fan's wallet.

While there are tons of Pokemon plush toys in existence, The Pokemon Company has been gradually rolling out official, giant plushies of various Pokemon. Snorlax, Lucario, and Spheal are just some of the Pokemon that have gotten the giant plush treatment. While a huge plush like this one won't fit in every fan's home, for mega-fans of Arcanine, the sacrifice of space and money may be well worth it.

The Pokemon Company is now taking pre-orders for a gigantic Arcanine plush. The plush comes in at 27 1/2 inches tall and 59 inches long, or roughly 2' 3" by 4' 11". As one would expect from official Pokemon merchandise, the Pokemon plush is an excellent likeness, featuring fluffy fur on its tail, mane, and chest, and it bears its usual stern expression. According to the listing, the Pokemon plush features embroidered paw pads and facial features, and can be acquired for a whopping $449.99 USD. However, fans who are interested in buying this particular Arcanine plush should be aware that it's exclusive to the Pokemon Center and won't ship until February 2025.

Arcanine's Presence and Popularity

While this price and size is likely too steep for some players, big fans of Arcanine may feel differently. The Pokemon Center has clearly had success with these giant plush toys, or it wouldn't keep making new releases. Arcanine is a good pick, not only because it's a large Pokemon in the series, but due to its overall popularity. Arcanine's regal but cute design has had a lasting impact on players, and it's also had a fairly strong presence in the competitive scene. While Arcanine fell from competition dominance in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet due to the ability to counter its Intimidate move, many fans still love using the Pokemon in battles and having it accompany them across Paldea.

While plush toys certainly don't dictate the future of the series, it's possible that Arcanine could make a comeback in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The creature got its first real variant with its Hisuian form, but lacks a Gigantamax or Mega Evolution. Many fans would likely be happy to see a Mega Arcanine emerge in Pokemon Legends: Z-A or a future mainline game. While the future for the Pokemon is unknown to players, even if it never saw any major alterations going forward, chances are it would still maintain a strong fanbase.
