A new leak may hint at a few of the creatures returning in the Generation 10 Pokemon game for the Nintendo Switch 2. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launched on the original Switch in 2022, but there are already plenty of rumors and leaks about the seemingly inevitable next Pokemon generation in light of the Switch 2’s release earlier this month.

A few of these leaks have indicated that Game Freak will indeed shift its focus toward the Nintendo Switch 2 after Pokemon Legends: Z-A launches later this year, and that the next mainline Pokemon game might already be in development under the codename “Gaia.” Other leaks have suggested that the next Pokemon generation could take place in a new region inspired by Greece's Cyclades islands, which could lead to a plethora of new Pokemon themed after ancient Greek mythology.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A's newly-announced release window could have some interesting implications for the next generation of Pokemon games.

Yet another leak could provide a look at some of the older Pokemon returning in Pokemon Gen 10, as reported by Comicbook. The source of this leak is unknown, but it is being shared by Pokemon-centric social media users like Hidden Power Podcast and consists of a blurry screenshot showing what appears to be a battle environment. The dual Rock/Steel type Pokemon Aron and Lairon, both of which were introduced in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, can be seen facing off against an unidentified opponent.

Possible Leaked Gen 10 Pokemon (So Far)

  • Aron (Leaked Screenshot)
  • Lairon (Leaked Screenshot)
  • Charjabug (Rumored)
  • Butterfree (Rumored)

Aggron, the third and final stage of Aron and Lairon’s evolutionary line, isn’t shown in the leaked Pokemon Gen 10 screenshot, but its presence in the game is very likely if its two younger forms are in it. The unnamed source of the leak claims to have two additional screenshots featuring Charjabug and Butterfree - both of which are also part of an evolutionary chain. Charjabug evolves from Grubbin and eventually becomes Vikavolt, while the classic Gen 1 Pokemon Butterfree springs from Caterpie and Metapod.

It should be noted that none of this has been officially verified, just like any of the previous rumors and leaks about Pokemon’s next generation. As such, fans should remain skeptical about any of these Pokemon being in the new game for the time being. The image in question could be fake, or perhaps a sort of test featuring Pokemon that might be swapped out later. As gamers wait for more official news about Pokemon Generation 10, they can look forward to Pokemon Legends: Z-A when it launches on the original Switch and Switch 2 on October 16.
