According to a leaker, the Gen 10 Pokemon games may be set in an archipelago with many islands. Many Pokemon fans are currently speculating about the next generation, and if proven correct, this leak could give some important hints about the setting of the upcoming Gen 10 games.
Pokemon developer Game Freak recently suffered a massive data breach, and information about a variety of Pokemon projects has surfaced. The contents leaked by the attack include some details about Gen 10 games, the source code of titles such as Pokemon HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black 2, and White 2, and personal data of 2,606 people. The leaks suggest that the Gen 10 Pokemon games are currently code-named Gaia, and are in development for both the current Switch and its successor.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Announce Two Mid-October Events
Following the Infernape Tera Raids, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet reveal two new opportunities for players to add to their critter collection.
Now, a prominent leaker called Centro Leaks revealed that Game Freak is currently planning the Gen 10 Pokemon games to be set in “an archipelago of many islands.” Unfortunately, this is the only detail revealed about the setting, and it’s currently unclear how much water traversal will be required during play. The upcoming generation will likely have plenty of Water-type Pokemon in case this leak is confirmed, though.
Pokemon's Gen 10 Games May Be Set in an Archipelago
Pokemon has already had games set in archipelagos before. In Gen 7, Pokemon Sun and Moon were set in Alola, a region inspired by Hawaii. After the leak, gamers on social media started to speculate about the setting, and an Ancient Greece-inspired region quickly became a popular theory among the fanbase. In any case, gamers should take both the leak and the speculation with a grain of salt and await Nintendo’s official announcement.
Regardless of the setting, it is very likely that Gen 10 Pokemon games will be successful. Released in 2022, the Gen 9 titles Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were a big hit, selling over 24 million units and overcoming classics such as Pokemon Gold and Silver, which attests to the current popularity of the franchise. With the next game possibly being a cross-gen release, it’ll likely sell well.
It’s currently not known when the Gen 10 Pokemon games will be released, but it’s virtually guaranteed that it will be after the launch of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which is set to debut in 2025. Several leaks about Pokemon Legends: Z-A have surfaced recently, indicating that Mega Evolutions will return to the game after being absent since Gen 7, and that the starters of the new title will be Treecko, Tepig, and Sobble.
