  • Gengar was reimagined as a King Boo-inspired creature by one fan artist, earning praise from the Pokemon community for the unique concept.
  • Gengar is often depicted in fan art, with other artists creating different fusions and redesigns.

A Pokemon fan has recently created incredible artwork reimagining Gengar as a King Boo-inspired creature. The Pokemon community loves to mix popular critters with famous characters from other franchises, and this mixture with the Luigi’s Mansion enemy is a fairly interesting one.

Gengar is one of the original Ghost/Poison-type creatures introduced in the first generation of Pokemon games. In Pokemon Red and Blue, it’s only possible to acquire Gengar by evolving a Haunter, which can be found in the Pokemon Tower together with its pre-evolution, Ghastly. King Boo, on the other hand, is a character introduced as an enemy in Luigi’s Mansion and has appeared in multiple games in the series, as well as some popular spin-offs like Mario Kart and Mario Party.

Now, a prolific Pokemon fan artist called MunchyKu designed King Gengar, which is essentially a fusion of a regular Gengar with King Boo. The critter was depicted in four different poses and had a pretty cute appearance. King Gengar looked like a fluffy, white Gengar with a big purple tongue and glowing eyes. To make sure that fans spotted their original inspiration, MunchyKu also gave the creature the same small crown that can be seen over King Boo’s head in the Luigi’s Mansion games. The artwork was praised by the Pokemon community, which gave the artist over 800 upvotes for sharing their cool concept.

Pokemon Fan's King Boo-Inspired Gengar

Due to Gengar’s popularity, the critter is often depicted in fan art. For example, another fan artist attempted to reimagine the critter last year, coming up with a Flying/Dark-type Gengar. In this artwork, the monster was redesigned as a huge purple bat with huge teeth, which looked impressive.

Some fans also like to fuse Gengar with other critters from the Pokemon franchise. One fan combined Gengar with Spiritomb, Banette, Cofagrigus, and Litwick, creating four different designs. Some of the most interesting designs included Patchwork Puppet, which reimagined Gengar as a jester, and Candle Wick, which depicted the ghost as a melting candle.

Earlier this month, another fan turned the Gengar evolutionary line into a beautiful resin lamp. The object, which could be seen from different angles, had all three Pokemon on top of each other, and it looked like something that most fans would love to have in their homes. Hopefully, other fans will continue to devise amazing Gengar fan art, as the monster is one of the most beloved Ghost-type creatures in the franchise.
