Summary

  • Gengar, one of the original Ghost-type Pokemon, remains popular and is still featured in current Pokemon games and events, highlighting its enduring popularity.
  • A talented fan created a realistic and spooky Gengar-themed pie, with Gengar's trademark grin made of apples and a cherry and juniper flavored filling.
  • The same fan also made cookies inspired by the newest Ghost-type Pokemon, Poltchageist.

One Pokemon fan has baked an oddly terrifying Gengar-themed pie. Gengar is one of the most recognizable and popular Ghost-type Pokemon, partially because it and its previous evolutions, Gastly and Haunter, were the first and only Pokemon with this typing in the original Pokemon Red and Blue games. Nearly 30 years later players can catch a special Gengar in Pokemon GO as part of the Halloween 2023 event and can add the Pokemon to their roster in the latest Switch games. Now that there are more than 50 Ghost-type Pokemon, Gengar's inclusion alongside series mascot Pikachu as a special event Pokemon is testament to its enduring popularity.

Due to its popularity, Gengar is often used as inspiration for fan art. One Pokemon fan made an impressive Gengar cookie using a rather satisfying pixel icing technique, for another example of crafty kitchen work. Gengar has appeared in every mainline Pokemon game, and also has a Mega and Gigantamax form. It is known as the Shadow Pokemon for its ability to mimic people's shadows with the intent of frightening them. It is said that the presence of Gengar will cause a chill in the air, and that it can steal life-force from its victims.

A Reddit user by the name of profrosemary has shared their terrifying Gengar pie. It is oddly realistic, as if the Shadow Pokemon has somehow haunted the otherwise delicious-looking creation to give the would-be pie eater the fright of their life. Gengar's trademark grin appears to be made of apples, while the rest of the pie is cherry and juniper flavored. Pokemon fans might be tempted to have a slice even if the pie was actually cursed, as profrosemary suggests in the comments.

This is not the only ghostly Pokemon-inspired baked product that profrosemary has created. The spirited baker also recently made some cookies based on the Matcha Pokemon Poltchageist that, according to profrosemary at least, will not sap the eater's life force away. Poltchageist was introduced with the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Teal Mask DLC, making them the newest Ghost-type Pokemon as of writing. It is a convergent species that bears a strong resemblance to Polteageist, the Black Tea Pokemon that was introduced in Sword and Shield.

The terrifying Gengar pie would arguably be the perfect Halloween dessert, perhaps with a side of a Vanilluxe-themed ice cream cake. Some Pokemon fan theories about Gengar's origin could also make for spooky Halloween stories, too. It has been suggested that Gengar is a reanimated Clefable. According to the Pokedex entry from Pokemon Moon, Gengar was actually once human, which is even more sinister.
