Pokemon GO is kicking off 2024 with a New Year's event for a limited time between January 1 and January 3. Pokemon GO has kept players busy by consistently hyping up new events, new features, and, of course, plenty of creatures to collect and battle.

The popular mobile game features so many Community Days and in-game events that developer Niantic recently concluded its Pokemon GO Community Day catch-up event so trainers would be able to capture all the featured pocket monsters they missed out on throughout 2023. Typically, these sorts of events include increased spawns for specific Pokemon, better shiny odds, new in-store items, decreased hatch distances, additional XP, and all sorts of bonuses.

The official Pokemon GO website has announced an upcoming New Year's event for the mobile game which will take place starting January 1, 2024, at 10 AM local time and conclude on January 3, 2024, at 8 PM local time. The event will see the debut of new costumed Pokemon: Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff, both sporting ribbons. Additionally, Gen 5 Pokemon Darumaka will be heavily featured in Field Research Tasks and see increased encounters in the wild. Not to mention, Darumaka hats will be available as in-game store items for avatars. Egg Hatch Distances will be halved or even quartered for those using the Pokemon GO Egg hatching widget. Additionally, players will be able to take on special raids, encounter Pokemon with fun costumes, and, of course, trainers will have a chance to capture shiny variants of these pocket monsters. As a festive treat, there will also be in-game fireworks.

Additionally, many of the best baby Pokemon will hatch from 7km Eggs collected during the event. Each region will have its own exclusive Five-Star Raid Pokemon: Buzzwole in the Americas, Xurkitree in the Asia-Pacific regions, and Pheromosa in Europe. For all regions, Mega Ampharos will be featured as the Mega Raid Pokemon.

Many trainers will be attracted to the event specifically because it will be a great opportunity to catch some of the rarest shinies in Pokemon GO. Shiny Nidorino in a party hat, in particular, is quite rare due to its timed availability in the past. The Pokemon in their special outfits are often featured in events like this, making them timed exclusives. Since these events only last for a relatively brief period, players occasionally only have days or even hours to capture some of the rarer creatures.

Of course, Niantic always has another event up its sleeve. Niantic is already touting its January Pokemon GO Community Day which is slated for January 6, 2024. The Community Day will heavily feature Alolan Grass-type starter Pokemon Rowlet.
