Pokemon GO constantly feeds its players new events almost every month. While some of these events are themed to holidays, other events simply promote specific Pokémon or add new content to the hit mobile game. However, one hit event is returning to Pokemon GO yet again starting January 10.
The Fashion Week event in Pokemon GO is a great way for players to catch new costumed Pokemon and expand their wardrobe. 2025’s event is no exception, with Niantic and Nintendo confirming new outfits and costumed Pokemon will be included in the event.
Pokemon GO: January Spotlight Hour Schedule
Every Tuesday, Pokemon GO hosts a weekly event where players participate in a spotlight hour; here is the schedule for January 2025.
Previous Pokémon GO Fashion Weeks
Pokemon GO added the Fashion Week event in October 2020. The event has become an annual tradition since then, typically occurring in the fall. Fashion Week 2025 differs in this way since it's taking place this month. However, this change may have occurred because there was no Fashion Week event in 2024. To offset the lack of a Fashion Week event last year, Niantic pushed up Fashion Week to the beginning of 2025 rather than making fans wait till fall.
Typically, Fashion Week has at least two costumed Pokemon, including shiny variants, an increase in specific Pokemon in the wild, and heightened opportunities to catch these Pokemon outside of wild encounters like in raids or from eggs. While the number of Pokemon has varied from year to year, the game tends to add at least two new costumed Pokemon per event.
Additionally, the number and type of wardrobe items have varied from event to event. Fashion Week 2020 started off small, with free Longchamp Backpacks being the only new avatar items in the event. Fashion Week 2021 ramped things up a notch with free and paid items in multiple categories added to the game. This was also the first time Fashion Week themed its items to a specific Pokemon, in 2021’s case Furfrou. This trend has continued since Fashion Week 2021 with Fashion Week 2022 featuring Mareanie-themed items and Fashion Week 2023 adding new wardrobe pieces themed around Gothitelle and Renuniclus.
How Fashion Week 2025 Stacks Up to its Predecessors
Fashion Week 2025 seems to be carrying the legacy of its predecessors with the confirmed items Niantic and Nintendo have announced so far. Currently, only two costumed Pokemon and their shiny counterparts have been confirmed. This would make Fashion Week 2025 have the least number of new costumed Pokemon in the event’s history. These Pokemon include Minccino and its evolution Cinccino, sporting fashionable rhinestone glasses and bows on their ears.
However, players have a chance to catch other costumed Pokémon from previous Fashion Weeks in the wild, including Blitzle (Fashion Week 2021) and Diglett (Fashion Week 2022). A few shiny costumed Pokemon will also be available as encounters from Field Research task rewards, including Butterfree (Fashion Week 2021), Dragonite (Fashion Week 2023), and Minccino. Raids will also give players the opportunity to catch costumed Pokémon with One-Star Raids spawning a costumed Shinx (Fashion Week 2020), Minccino, or regular Furfrou, and Three-Star Raids spawning costumed Butterfree and Dragonite.
Fashion Week 2025 Shop Items
This new Fashion Week obviously adds a few new avatar items to the Pokemon GO in-game shop. The only items confirmed are a matching navy blue Plaid Top and Plaid Pants that essentially work together as a suit which can be purchased with PokeCoins. Surprisingly, no Pokemon-themed avatar items have been confirmed for Fashion Week 2025 so far.
As is typical for Pokemon GO, Fashion Week 2025 also features Paid Timed Research. For $5.00, players can access event-exclusive Timed Research. The rewards include 3,500 XP, 3,500 Stardust, an event-themed avatar pose, and more costumed Pokemon encounters including Dragonite, Minccino, and regular Furfrou. This Paid Timed Research expires alongside the event and rewards must be claimed before January 19 at 8 PM local time.
All in all, Fashion Week 2025 seems to be fairly in line with previous events. Though the item count for this year’s event may seem less than its predecessors, there’s a chance that more avatar items or new costumed Pokemon could appear. Pokemon GO’s Fashion Week 2025 event begins on January 10 at 10 AM local time and runs till January 19 at 8 PM local time.
