While July has been a good month for Pokemon GO, due to the rewards offered by its events, Niantic's current plans for August suggest that players should brace themselves for a potential dry spell. Having started the month off with its 9th Anniversary Party, Pokemon GO hit the ground running in July, offering special rewards and bonuses (like a commemorative Gimmighoul form), longer Lure and Incense durations, and increased experience and Stardust. Later events in July, including several Ultra Unlocks and 2025's Water Festival, upped the ante even further, as new Pokemon, shiny forms, and more became available.
However, despite July's momentum, August could potentially see Pokemon GO stall, as the rewards featured in the upcoming events pale in comparison to what was offered the month before. From Sweet Swarm's disappointing handful of shiny Pokemon and Lure bonuses to GO Fest 2025 Max Finale's introduction of the Legendary Pokemon Eternatus, August is shaping up to be an uphill battle for Pokemon GO players, especially after July. As valuable resources like Stardust, Candy, and experience may be harder to come by in August, Pokemon GO's approach to events in July might not have prepared players for the month ahead.
Pokemon GO Reveals August 2025 GO Pass Rewards
Developers reveal every reward available for players in the August GO Pass, allowing Pokemon GO players a limited time to progress through each tier.
Pokemon GO's Events Have Been July's Feast, But August's Famine
Even though Pokemon GO provides a year-round schedule of events that celebrate Pokemon, holidays, regions, and more, July has been a particularly generous month. While it was expected that Niantic would go big with Pokemon GO's 9th Anniversary Party, the developer's generosity continued throughout July, and the remaining events offered some nice rewards, including:
- 2x or 4x Stardust
- 2x or 4x experience
- Bonus Candy from Nice, Great, or Excellent Throws
- New Pokemon, like Honedge, Hisuian Zorua, Toedscool, and Tatsugiri
However, while July's events allowed players to stock up on high-value rewards, like Stardust and Candy, their reserves may not be enough to get them through August.
Given that Niantic plans to conclude GO Fest 2025 in August, with players coming face-to-face with Eternamax Eternatus, the month's other events may only do so much to help fans prepare for the main event. With Pokemon GO's Cozy Companions and Sweet Swarm events appearing to focus primarily on new Pokemon and alternate forms, like Snom and shiny Tandemaus, Dark Skies is the only August event that seems geared towards GO Fest 2025 Max Finale. In hindsight, then, the Stardust, Candy, and Max Particles that could be earned through July's events may have been crucial for players now preparing to take on Eternatus.
Pokemon GO's Day Events Could Be Make-or-Break For August
Though Pokemon GO's main events can provide more time to complete tasks and earn rewards, players may want to pay attention to August's various Community, Max Battle, and Research Days. Leading up to GO Fest 2025 Max Finale, Fossil Research Day, Gigantamax Butterfree Max Battle Day, Munchlax Hatch Day, and Origin Raid Day could help players by offering rewards like:
- Tyrunt and Amaura encounter, with type match-ups against Eternatus.
- Increased Max Particle gain and limits, and faster Power Spot refreshes with Gigantamax Battles.
- Origin Forme Dialga and Palkia, with type match-ups, special Adventure Effects, and 1.5x Raid experience.
- Half the distance required to hatch Eggs and 2x Candy when hatched.
However, as highlighted by fans' complaints about Pokemon GO's events, players will only have a few set hours to capitalize on these "day-long" events and earn their rewards.
Pokemon GO's Paid Events May Be August's Last Resort
Players may be forced to consider purchasing in-game tickets to gain additional rewards from August's events. For example, the Event Tickets for August's Max Battle and Raid Days will offer yet more Stardust, Candy, Max Particles, and experience. While some Pokemon GO players may find these tickets to be too expensive, especially after being spoiled by July's events, the premium rewards that can be earned by purchasing them could provide the advantage fans are looking for ahead of August's GO Fest 2025 Max Finale.
