Pokemon GO players are still waiting for the Field Research quests to go live, but that hasn't stopped the game's Japanese website from revealing some details ahead of time. One detail revealed by the Japanese website has some fans worried, however, as it suggests that they will only have one shot at catching the mythical Pokemon Mew.

The mythical Pokemon Mew was added to Pokemon GO in the game's latest update, but players can only encounter it by completing the story quest called Search for Mew. The Japanese Pokemon GO website notes that players can only complete the quest one time, and if that's the case, then players may only have chance to catch the elusive creature.

However, it's not all doom and gloom. It's likely that if players have only chance at catching Mew that the Pokemon will have a 100% catch rate, like Niantic has done on certain occasions in the past. For example, shiny Lugias have a 100% catch rate, and legendary Pokemon that appeared during Pokemon GO Fest last summer also seemed to have a 100% catch rate as well.

Of course, that's just speculation at this time, and it's possible that some players will simply miss out on the opportunity to catch Mew. If so, this could potentially upset the community, as Pokemon GO has already been widely criticized for how difficult it is to catch certain Pokemon in the game, particularly for people that live in rural areas.

Many Pokemon GO players in rural areas already find it almost impossible to catch legendary Pokemon, as it's difficult to organize large enough groups for legendary raids. Research quests will give these players the chance to capture legendary Pokemon like Moltres, but if Mew is the first special Pokemon they have the chance to catch and they miss out on it, it's sure to upset some fans.

As players complete the first set of research quests and encounter Mew, we will learn more about how catching the mythical Pokemon will work in the game. In the meantime, all fans can do is speculate as they wait for the long-awaited new features to go live.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
