It is a hot, sweltering summer for many Pokemon GO players right now, and to celebrate the sweaty times, Niantic is hosting the 2025 Water Festival, which features the inclusion of the mimicry Pokemon, Tatsugiri, for the first time. You can read more about the water event here, but there are, of course, increased spawns for plenty of water-type pocket monsters, including the Hoenn bivalve Pokemon, Clamperl.
Now, Clamperl and its two evolutions, Gorebyss and Huntail, aren't new to Pokemon GO at all --they've been available for years now. Even still, a lot of trainers are going to be catching a lot of Clamperl during the event (which ends on July 20, 8 PM local time). By using this guide, you can learn how to evolve Clamperl into Gorebyss and Huntail in Pokemon GO.
If you're reading this guide after the 2025 Water Festival, you can still catch a Clamperl and evolve it, but you might have a harder time encountering them. You can always set a Clamperl as your walking Buddy to get extra Candy towards its evolutions. More on that below!
Pokemon GO: Best Lucky Pokemon, Ranked
Lucky Pokemon in Pokemon GO requires time and dedication, but it can certainly pay off by providing players with the best Pokemon.
What Does Clamperl Evolve into in Pokemon GO?
It's random!
So, once you get your hands on a Clamperl, you can evolve it into one of two Pokemon, Gorebyss or Huntail, by feeding it 50 Candy. Both Pokemon are Water-types like Clamperl, but you actually cannot choose the Pokemon that you're going to get from the evolution. It's a 50/50 chance. In the images above, Gorebyss is the pink Pokemon on the left, and Huntail is the blue/orange Pokemon on the right.
In the main Pokemon games, Huntail and Gorebyss aren't that different when it comes to stats. The base stats are the same, but Huntail has higher Attack and Gorebyss has higher Special Attack.
Can Clamperl, Gorebyss, and Huntail Be Shiny?

You can indeed find a shiny Clamperl in the wild and then evolve it into Huntail and Gorebyss. If you want to see how the shiny variants for all three Pokemon look, you can check out the table above.
