A special code for Pokemon GO revealed during this year's Pokemon Presents live stream is giving players a chance to choose and catch a Gigantamax Pokemon until August 24. To mark the end of Pokemon GO Fest 2025, the code presents Pokemon GO trainers with a choice between the three Gen 8 starters — Scorbunny, Grookey, and Sobble — in their final evolved forms, with the added bonus of their rare Gigantamax transformations.
Gigantamax Pokemon are normally locked behind difficult 6-Star Max Battles in Pokemon GO, requiring large groups of trainers to take on the boss encounters for a chance to catch these extremely powerful monsters. What makes Gigantamax Pokemon unique from the typical Dynamax Pokemon is their unique transformations; both Gigantamax and Dynamax Pokemon grow to towering heights when transformed, but Gigantamax Pokemon also alter their appearance and gain unique G-Max moves. Although there are 33 Gigantamax Pokemon, only 12 have made their way to Pokemon GO thus far.
Pokemon GO: A Complete Pokedex (December 2025)
The number that denotes a "complete" Pokedex in Pokemon GO can be confusing and complicated.
Players who redeem the promo code "GOFESTMAX" on the Pokemon GO Web Store before Aug. 3, 2025, can choose to unlock an encounter with either Gigantamax Cinderace, Rillaboom, or Inteleon. Revealed during the Pokemon GO section of this year's Pokemon Presents, the code unlocks Timed Research that must be completed before Aug. 24, 2025 before their Pokemon of choice will appear. The Timed Research appears under the events tab as "Gigantamax Journey Timed Research" and has five tasks for players to complete, each granting their own rewards.

The showcase also revealed the global debut of the extraterrestrial legendary Pokemon Eternatus and the Max Finale Event, which will see an increase in the number of Gigantamax Pokemon encounters in Pokemon GO from August 23 to August 24. Despite the showcase's highlighting of Gigantamax forms, the announcement of Eternatus' debut did not reveal whether the legendary's unique Eternamax form would also be coming to the game.
Pokemon GO players will want to redeem the Gigantamax promo code as soon as possible to maximize the amount of time they have to complete the Timed Research before August 24. The code is especially crucial for free-to-play trainers in less populated areas, as it makes Gigantamax Pokemon much more accessible than the usual requirement of defeating difficult raid bosses. The upcoming Max Finale Event could present another opportunity for players to collect Gigantamax Pokemon should they start appearing in the wild, although some community members have complained about the tight scheduling of some Pokemon GO events.
