In celebration of Pokemon Day 2025, Pokemon GO players can claim a limited-timed research task, along with other free goodies, by entering special codes. Niantic’s Pokemon GO is preparing for a major event that will see players from around the world participate in the Unova Tour from March 1 to March 2, 2025.
The Pokemon GO Unova Tour will celebrate all things Pokemon Black and White, and Niantic expects a significant number of players to join in over the weekend. Leading up to the event, trainers found they could purchase more space for Pokemon and items in the mobile title. The Pokemon GO storage limit has increased to 9,800, while the maximum item limit is now 8,800. In addition to these capacity increases, Niantic has released free codes for players to redeem ahead of the festivities on March 1.
Pokemon Champions Announced for Switch and Mobile
A new game called Pokemon Champions looks like an official version of Pokemon Showdown—and will even be available on non-Nintendo platforms.
Announced during the recent Pokemon Presents presentation on February 27, players can go to the Pokemon GO web store to redeem the code GOTOURUNOVA. This will unlock the Pokemon Presents '25 x GO Tour Timed Research task that rewards one of Unova’s starter Pokemon: Snivy, Tepig, or Oshawott. Depending on the path chosen, players will have the opportunity to catch their selected monster and special event background. Once claimed, players have until March 9, 2025, to complete all tasks before the timed research disappears from the app. Additionally, players can claim the code RCC4AJPAUCW86 for 50 Blaze Fusion energy, and WJ5DFWASCL65W for 50 Volt Fusion energy. These codes are valid until Sunday, March 2, and will assist trainers when fusing Reshiram or Zekrom with Kyurem to create the new fusion Pokemon, Black Kyurem and White Kyurem.

The codes are the latest in a recent spate of freebies given by Niantic to trainers. Players were recently treated to three timed-research tasks in Pokemon GO that unlock legendary Pokemon. Until March 1, 2025, players can still encounter the flying trio of Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus so long as they complete the requirements of each task.
Pokemon GO players aren’t the only ones receiving in-game rewards on Pokemon Day. During the Pokemon Presents presentation, Game Freak announced that players who start Pokemon Scarlet and Violet can claim a new item ahead of the latest 7-star Terra raids. These raids are set to begin on February 28, and players will be able to face Meowscarada carrying the mighty mark. Skeledirge and Quaquaval will follow in the upcoming weeks before other monsters are rotated in.
In addition to the announcements for its current games, The Pokemon Company also showcased the first gameplay footage of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch in late 2025. Alongside the first look at an evolving Lumiose City, players were excited to learn that the starting trio consists of Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile.
