As this beloved and one-of-a-kind creature gains more prevalence with players at large, many likely have one main question on their minds: what's the best evolution choice for Eevee in Pokemon GO?
It's a question that doesn't often apply to most Pokemon, whether they're in Pokemon GO or not. Eevee is unique in the sense that it can evolve into a total of eight different second forms: Sylveon, Leafeon, Glaceon, Espeon, Umbreon, Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon. As their names suggest, these evolved forms are linked to different types (Jolteon is an Electric-type Pokemon, for instance), and they also come with a slew of unique stat compositions. In other words, the best Eevee evolution in Pokemon GO depends on a player's current party composition and playstyle; there are no "bad" Eevee evolutions. That said, there are two options that are especially powerful, regardless of playstyle or party details.

What Are the Best Eevee Evolutions in Pokemon GO?
Umbreon Is the Best Eevee Evolution for Ultra League Players
Given Ultra League's low CP cap and the resulting variety of different Pokemon competitors, an Umbreon evolution is the best bet. Indeed, for players who prefer this league, Umbreon's rock-solid defensive stats allow for unstoppable tank builds, letting players plow through their opponents with relative ease. And since its max CP falls just slightly short of Ultra League's 2,500 max, Umbreon is particularly well-suited to Ultra play—it's just not going to be as effective in other leagues.
Umbreon is a Dark-type Pokemon, and is weak to Bug, Fairy, and Fighting-type attacks.
How to Evolve Eevee into Umbreon in Pokemon Go
Like in other Pokemon games, the player has control over which secondary form Eevee assumes, though the process itself is quite different. That said, there are two reliable ways to ensure that Eevee turns into Umbreon:
- Walk with Eevee as a Buddy for ten kilometers, then start the evolution process at night.
- Rename the Eevee Tamao, and feed it 25 Eevee Candy.
The renaming trick only works once per Eevee evolution—players won't be able to turn another Eevee into Umbreon via this trick a second time.
For Master League Players, Sylveon Is the Best Eevee Evolution
Eevee's Fairy-type evolution is a more suitable option for Pokemon GO's Master League. Sylveon doesn't have the same high defensive stats as Umbreon, but it does boast a much higher CP maximum, making it a more valuable tool for the uncapped Master League. Since Sylveon is a Fairy-type, it's especially useful against Dark and Dragon-type Pokemon, which is something to keep in mind as well.
Sylveon is weak to Steel and Poison-type attacks.
How to Evolve Eevee into Sylveon in Pokemon GO
Like with Umbreon, players can use the name trick to target Sylveon in Pokemon GO: by renaming the Sylveon Kira and feeding it 25 Eevee Candy, the Fairy-type evolution should come to fruition. Alternatively, the Sylveon evolution can be unlocked by earning 70 Buddy Points with the base Eevee, then using 25 Eevee Candy to jumpstart the evolution process. In both cases, the silhouette of Sylveon should appear as an alternate evolution option.
Umbreon and Sylveon are good candidates for the best Eevee evolution in Pokemon GO, but ultimately, the choice is up to the player. If a player already has a fleet of powerful Fairy-types, for instance, then perhaps Sylveon might be a bit of a superfluous route. All the Eevee evolutions have their strengths, so it's worth it to experiment a bit.
