Summary

  • Niantic's Aquatic Paradise event sparks controversy as players worry about future monetization of event spawns.
  • Fans are skeptical about the future of event spawns, fearing increased reliance on Incense and potential price hikes.

Pokemon GO fans are unhappy over Niantic potentially making changes to event spawns, which pushes players to use Incense to see more of the featured Pokemon during an event. This comes after Niantic revealed Pokemon GO's all-new Aquatic Paradise event, giving players all across the globe a chance to get access to Pokemon which are debuting as part of Pokemon GO Fest 2024: New York.

Pokemon GO fans have been unhappy over the series of developments that have taken place in the game lately. While the Avatar update was a mess, subsequent changes by Niantic have also not gone down well in the community. A research study even claimed that Pokemon GO was the buggiest popular game, which speaks volumes about the issues players have been facing. While fans are waiting for one of the most anticipated events of the year, the Pokemon GO Fest, to arrive, Niantic is on the way to making yet another change that has left many disappointed.

What Are Your Thoughts On Niantic Keeping Remote Raid Restrictions in Pokemon GO?

Niantic's remote raid restrictions aim to bring players back outside and foster in-person communities. However, this approach disadvantages players in rural areas where in-person raids are scarce. While some players might understand Niantic’s goals, many still feel left out due to the high cost and limited access to remote raids.

In a new post on the Pokemon GO subreddit user Entire_Pineapple4732 notes how Niantic is potentially monetizing event spawns. The user highlights how the newly announced Pokemon GO Aquatic Paradise event has a special bonus, which increases the chance of catching event Pokemon when players are using Incense. What makes this bonus noteworthy is that the event is not a dedicated Incense Day like the Ferroseed event and Niantic is still pushing players to use Incense to get increased event spawns.

Pokemon GO Fans Are Skeptical Over Future Of Event Spawns

Fans are unhappy over this, considering that this comes at a time when the Pokemon GO spawns have been under fire from the community. After the Biome update, players have expressed that the game has been filled with an unprecedented number of Kanto spawns. The fact that this behavior extends to events as well is what makes things worse, since players end up seeing more Kanto Pokemon than featured ones during an event.

While some Pokemon GO fans have noted that getting Incense isn't particularly hard in the game, it is just that others are a bit skeptical about this setting a bad precedence for future events. While many regular players would have an abundance of Incense in the game, if players have to start depending on Incense for events like these, then it won't be long before they have to spend money and buy Incense instead. In fact, many think that Niantic might well be on its way to increasing the price of Incense in the near future.
