Hitmonlee & Hitmonchan Spotlight Hour: Bonuses & Shiny Rates, Explained
In P okemon GO, the Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan Spotlight Hour event will go live on May 7, 2024, and run from 6 PM until 7 PM local time. During this short, one-hour-long window, players will be able to witness a big increase in the amount of wild Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan that they encounter in the wild, providing a solid opportunity to fill spaces in the Pokedex, search for a strong Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan with stats worthy of PvP and PvE battles, or perhaps even try your luck in securing a shiny variant of either Pokemon.
In addition to both Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee appearing much more frequently in the wild, there is also the Spotlight Hour event bonus of 2x Transfer Candy. This means that any Pokemon that you transfer within the Spotlight Hour timeframe will receive twice the amount of Candy as a reward. To best maximize the benefit from this perk, it's a good idea to hold off on evolving any Pokemon until the event begins, as this way, you will be able to double up on the rewards you would have already been receiving.
As a final perk of this event, both Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan have shiny variants obtainable as wild encounters in Pokemon GO. While Spotlight Hour events don't directly improve shiny odds, the significant increases in spawns for those particular Pokemon do provide many more chances at hitting those lucky odds, making Spotlight Hours a short but decent shot at obtaining one of these Pokemon with an alternate color palette.
The average shiny rates for regular wild encounters in Pokemon GO have previously been determined to have an approximate 1 in 500 chance of encounter. This was discovered through the collection and examination of player data by The Silph Road during their partnership with Pokemon GO developer, Niantic.
