Armored Mewtwo is a special version of Mewtwo that first appeared in the Pokemon series in the first episode of the anime, and later in the first Pokemon film. Many fans might be wondering if this special edition Mewtwo can also be obtained in Pokemon GO, even if the method makes it difficult to obtain.

While the strategy that must be used to obtain Armored Mewtwo is certainly not conventional, the Pokemon is available in Pokemon GO for players to get, but does require trading rather than the typical method of getting it during an event or in the wild.

How to Get Armored Mewtwo in Pokemon GO

Though many fans expected Armored Mewtwo to not be an option in Pokemon GO, the Pokemon was first introduced to the mobile game in 2019 as a 5-Star Raid Battle. The Pokemon was specifically available from July 10, 2019, to July 31, 2019. Players had the chance to encounter and eventually catch the rare Pokemon after defeating it in a tough battle.

The Pokemon has a boosted CP that can get up to 2276, and its stats include 214 HP, 182 ATK, and 278 DEF. It is a Psychic-type that is weak to Bug, Dark, and Ghost-types, and is boosted by Windy weather. When the Pokemon was available in 5-Star Raids, it was a difficult battle that required at least 3 to 6 trainers to take down.

Since this Raid Battle event back in 2019, and another in 2020, the Pokemon has unfortunately not appeared since, meaning it was only available for direct catching at that time. However, there is still a method you can use to get it now, but it requires a Special Trade. This allows you to trade another Special Pokemon you have for an Armored Mewtwo, but it can only be done with other trainers that you are friends with. It will take even less Stardust if you are Best Friends with this trainer. If you are wondering what Pokemon counts as a Special Pokemon, here is what you can use:

  • Legendary Pokemon
  • Shiny Pokemon
  • Special Pokemon Forms (Pokemon that are only available during events, like Straw Hat Pikachu)
  • Pokemon that you haven't yet found in your Pokedex

Basically, if you have any rare Pokemon that isn't available at any given moment in the game, you will be able to use it to trade for an Armored Mewtwo. However, this is if another player agrees to give up their Armored Mewtwo to you, which might be tough to do.
