Community Days are events in Pokemon GO where an outbreak of a specific Pokemon will appear for three hours. Not only is this a good time to catch a Pokemon that may or may not be in your dex, it's also a great time to Shiny Hunt. With Gen 9 Pokemon crossing over into Pokemon GO, now's your chance to catch their Shiny Forms.
Quaxly is one of the three starters you can choose in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, but you can also catch it in Pokemon GO alongside Sprigatito and Fuecoco. In fact, the July 20, 2025 Community Day features the Duckling Pokemon, making it the perfect opportunity to get a Shiny Quaxly or two. If you miss out on Quaxly's Community Day, there are still ways to get Shiny Quaxly in GO.

Where to Find Shiny Quaxly in Pokemon GO
Quaxly Community Day (July 2025)
As a Water-type, Quaxly tends to prefer rainy weather. It also has a higher chance of appearing during in-game events, such as the 9th anniversary of Pokemon GO. If you're struggling to find Quaxly, you should look in places that have bodies of water, or you can try and put a Rainy Lure on a PokeStop. Since you're looking for a Shiny, the odds of it appearing are much lower than a regular Quaxly. Your best bet is to use the Rainy Lures and Incense items to potentially attract Quaxlys to your location.
Closer Look at Community Day (July 20, 2025)
On July 20, 2025, there's a Community Day with Quaxly as the featured Pokemon. This event will run from 2:00pm - 5:00pm local. Community Day not only drastically increases the spawn rate of the featured Pokemon. You'll receive in-game Timed Research that you can complete to get a Quaxly encounter with a special background. For $1.99, you can purchase a Special Research pass at the in-game store.
During Community Day: Quaxly, you should be in a public area with plenty of PokeStops or gyms. While the event is active, Quaxly will spawn regardless of your surroundings. Meaning that even though it's a Water-type and prefers environments with water, it'll still spawn if you're indoors, etc.
You can tell if you have already clicked on the Pokemon if it's facing you on the map.
Quaxly will appear all over your in-game map. The best way to Shiny Hunt during Community Day is to click/tap on every Quaxly that appears. Eventually, you should get at least one Shiny Quaxly. If none of the Quaxly are Shiny, then you can try all or any of the following:
- Walk a bit further so that more Quaxly spawn, then select the newly-spawned Quaxly.
- Place a Rainy Lure on the PokeStop (a Lure Module during Community Day also works).
- Use an Incense (Daily or regular).

How to Evolve Shiny Quaxly
How to Get Shiny Quaxwell & Shiny Quaquaval
Now that you have a Shiny Quaxly, you may want to evolve it. To evolve Shiny Quaxly into Quaxwell, you'll need 25 Quaxly Candy. To evolve Quaxwell into Quaquaval, you'll need 100 Quaxly Candy. If you're catching every Quaxly you see during Community Day (July 2025) or during a starter-themed event (ex: Poekmon GO 9th anniversary), then you should have enough to evolve Shiny Quaxly immediatley into Shiny Quaquaval.
Quaxlys evolved into Quaquaval will have the Charged Attack: Hydro Cannon. However, this featured Charged Attack for Quaquaval will only last until July 27, 2025 (10:00pm local). Thus, you'll want to evolve your Shiny Quaxly before the deadline.
