Team GO Rocket is once again making trouble in the hit mobile title, Pokemon GO. Since their addition, the inclusion of Team GO Rocket enemies has been a popular one with fans as they consistently appear at PokeStops as well as hot air balloons. Players likely won't have too much trouble with basic grunts, the real prize for knocking off these enemies is creating a Rocket Radar which gives them the opportunity to go up against stronger opponents in the form of Cliff, Arlo, and Sierra.
These Team GO Rocket leaders are intended to be a bigger challenge, bringing stronger Pokemon to battle as well as better rewards for overcoming them. Each month, Sierra, Arlo, and Cliff bring with them a different lineup of Pokemon, making sure that players stay on their toes and to not get too comfortable. During special events and quests, taking down the leaders can even lead to a Super Rocket Radar, which gives players the opportunity to take on Giovanni and the ultimate Shadow Pokemon prize.
For the month of May, Sierra's team may be a real challenge for Pokemon GO players as she comes with plenty of damage types that are opposites of each other. This includes Fire and Water, Psychic and Dark, and a few more for good measure. Here is what players should expect as well as which Pokemon to bring to score a victory.
Sierra's First Pokemon
During May, Sierra will be leading off her battles with Drowzee who is a pure psychic type Pokemon that will likely be the easiest matchup out of the three. As such, players will want to make sure they have Bug, Dark, and Ghost-type attacks ready to pick on Drowzee's weaknesses. Since this Pokemon will likely be her easiest, players will want to try and focus on removing her shields as quickly as possible, so she won't be able to utilize them later on.
Here are some solid options for players to counter this fight:
- Darkrai with Snarl fast attack and Shadow Ball for the Charged Attack.
- Hoopa with Astonish fast attack and Shadow Ball for the Charged Attack.
- Weavile with Snarl fast attack and Foul Play for the Charged Attack.
- Chandelure with Hex fast attack and Shadow Ball for the Charged Attack.
- Gengar with Shadow Claw fast attack and Shadow Ball for the Charged Attack.
- Absol with Snarl fast attack and Payback for the Charged Attack.
Sierra's Second Pokemon
Just like with the other Pokemon GO Rocket Leaders, Sierra will have three possibilities for her second battle. For May 2022, players could see either Blaziken, Sharpedo, or Lapras. Here's how to deal with all three.
Sharpedo
As a Dark and Water type Pokemon, Sharpedo is weak to Bug, Electric, Fairy, Fighting, and Grass-type moves. This is also the easiest option of the three thanks to its large list of weaknesses and lower health.
- Palkia with Dragon Tail fast attack and Draco Meteor for the Charged Attack.
- Machamp with Counter fast attack and Cross Chop or Rock Slide for the Charged Attack.
- Vileplume with Razor Leaf fast attack and Moonblast or Sludge Bomb for the Charged Attack.
- Conkeldurr with Counter fast attack and Dynamic Punch for the Charged Attack.
- Roserade with Razor Leaf fast attack and Grass Knot for the Charged Attack.
- Alolan Exeggutor with Dragon Tail fast attack and Seed Bomb or Dragon Pulse for the Charged Attack.
- Zekrom with Charge Beam fast attack and Wild Charge for the Charged Attack.
Blaziken
Another dual type is Blaziken who is Fire and Fighting. The best options to go with are Pokemon with Psychic, Flying, Water, and Ground attacks.
- Mewtwo with Confusion fast attack and Psystrike for the Charged Attack.
- Moltres with Wing Attack fast attack and Sky Attack for the Charged Attack.
- Latios with Zen Headbutt fast attack and Psychic for the Charged Attack.
- Kyogre with Waterfall fast attack and Surf for the Charged Attack.
- Alakazam with Confusion fast attack and Psychic for the Charged Attack.
- Hoopa with Confusion fast attack and Psychic for the Charged Attack.
- Espeon with Confusion fast attack and Psychic for the Charged Attack.
Lapras
Naturally, Sierra has her Ice/Water Type Pokemon Lapras which is incredibly tanky. While particularly weak to Electric, Grass, Fighting, and Rock-types, though players will want to be careful with Grass and Rock types as Lapras can counter them with its Ice moves. Players may also want to pick sturdier Pokemon for this fight as Lapras can take down lower health Pokemon very quickly.
- Magnezone with Spark fast attack and Wild Charge for the Charged Attack.
- Machamp with Counter fast attack and Cross Chop or Rock Slide for the Charged Attack.
- Melmetal with Thunder Shock fast attack and Superpower or Rock Slide for the Charged Attack.
- Raikou with Volt Switch fast attack and Wild Charge for the Charged Attack.
- Lucario with Counter fast attack and Aura Sphere for the Charged Attack.
- Zekrom with Charge Beam fast attack and Wild Charge for the Charged Attack.
- Conkeldurr with Counter fast attack and Dynamic Punch for the Charged Attack.
Sierra's Third Pokemon
With two Pokemon down at this point, players will be facing another mystery battle for the third and final round. Just like her other Leaders, Sierra again has three potential Pokemon to pick from and players won't know who it is until they get to this point. For May 2022, players could see either Houndoom, Shiftry, or Nidoqueen. Here's how to deal with all three.
Houndoom
The Dark/Fire Type Pokemon Rhyperior is particularly weak to Fighting, Ground, Rock, and Water-type moves.
- Conkeldurr with Counter fast attack and Dynamic Punch or Smack Down for the Charged Attack.
- Machamp with Counter fast attack and Cross Chop or Rock Slide for the Charged Attack.
- Rampardos with Smack Down fast attack and Rock Slide for the Charged Attack.
- Rhyperior with Smack Down fast attack and Surf or Rock Wrecker for the Charged Attack.
- Kyogre with Waterfall fast attack and Hydro Pump for the Charged Attack.
- Groudon with Mud Shot fast attack and Earthquake for the Charged Attack.
Shiftry
The Grass/Dark Type Pokemon Shiftry is particularly weak to Fairy, Fighting, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Fire-type moves. This Pokemon is also the easiest choice for many thanks to its low health compared to the other two options.
- Sylveon with Charm fast attack and Moonblast or Psyshock for the Charged Attack.
- Togekiss with Charm fast attack and Ancient Power or Flamethrower for the Charged Attack.
- Darmanitan with Fire Fang fast attack and Overheat for the Charged Attack.
- Hariyama with Counter fast attack and Close Combat or Heavy Slam for the Charged Attack.
- Clefable with Charm fast attack and Moonblast or Meteor Mash for the Charged Attack.
- Moltres with Wing Attack fast attack and Overheat for the Charged Attack.

The Poison/Ground Type Pokemon Nidoqueen is particularly weak to Ice, Psychic, Water, and Ground-type moves.

- Hoopa with Confusion fast attack and Psychic for the Charged Attack.
- Excadrill with Mudslap fast attack and Earthquake for the Charged Attack.

- Kyogre with Waterfall fast attack and Hydro Pump for the Charged Attack.
- Espeon with Confusion fast attack and Pyschic for the Charged Attack.
- Landorus (Therian Forme) with Extrasensory fast attack and Earthquake for the Charged Attack.
