In Pokemon GO, evolving your Pokemon into more powerful forms is a key aspect of gameplay, both for the purposes of casual or competitive battles, and filling your Pokedex. The opportunity to encounter Pokemon that are not as common to come by in the wild is provided through the likes of limited-time events.

One such event occurring throughout Pokemon GO's Delightful Days season is the August 2025 Fossil Research Day event. During this event, players have an opportunity to obtain a variety of different fossil Pokemon, such as Tyrunt and Amaura. If you have obtained one of these two monsters and are wondering how to evolve them, all relevant information has been explained in the guide below.

How to Evolve Tyrunt into Tyrantrum in Pokemon GO

tyrunt

To evolve Tyrunt into Tyrantrum, Trainees will need to collect a specific amount of Tyrunt Candy, then evolve it by opening the Pokemon profile and clicking the evolve button. Tyrunt will specifically require 50 Candy to evolve, and it can only evolve during the daytime hours. Players can earn Tyrunt Candy by defeating, capturing, and transferring Tyrunt that they encounter, with captures generally providing 3 Candies each prior to any bonuses.

How to Evolve Amaura into Aurorus in Pokemon GO

amaura

On the other hand, Amaura’s evolution methods are somewhat parallel to Tyrunt's. Amaura will also require 50 Candy to evolve into Aurorus, and can only evolve during the nighttime hours. As a fossil Pokemon, Amaura is often featured through events as a Research Encounter or Raid Boss, with the most recent appearance being in Delightful Days' 2025 Fossil Research Day event.

Are Tyrunt and Amaura Worth Getting & Evolving in Pokemon GO?

fossil research day-1

As it is unclear when Amaura and Tyrunt will next be returning as featured Pokemon, players should look to utilize this opportunity and complete the relevant event Research Tasks to earn encounters with these two monsters. Lastly, both Amaura and Tyrunt are available in shiny form, so if players are lucky enough to get their hands on a shiny variant of either of these monsters, they can also be further evolved into shiny Tyrantrum or shiny Aurorus.

Both Tyrantrum and Aurorus may be further utilized by Trainers in PvE or PvP battles, such as Raids or Leagues/Cups. A Tyrantrum equipped with the likes of a Dragon Tail and Meteor Beam combo can be expected to dish out approximately 278.1 damage before fainting in battle, equaling around 13.9 damage per second. Aurorus tends to have the largest damage output when the Fast Move is Rock Throw and the Charged Move is Meteor Beam. This setup equals around 11.7 damage per second, and a total of nearly 271 damage before fainting.
