Through an official Twitter post, Pokemon GO has confirmed that Shadow Pokemon aren't suitable for Hyper Training through Bottle Caps. Shadow Pokemon can be very powerful in PvP battles or raids, so fans are often looking to obtain Shadow monsters with decent stats. Now that Pokemon GO's Gold Bottle Caps aren't suitable for Shadow Pokemon, the news may be disappointing for some players who were hoping to power up their unpurified monsters. The developers added that Pokemon with already maxed-out stats cannot undergo Hyper Training either.
