Niantic reveals the next Pokemon GO Community Day Classic event will be held on January 20 with Normal-type Porygon as the featured Pokemon. During the event, Porygon will appear more frequently in the wild, and Pokemon GO players may earn an exclusive move by evolving the Pokemon.
Typically, Niantic hosts two Pokemon GO Community Day events per month. The first Pokemon GO Community Day event of 2024 will arrive on January 6, and the Community Day Classic event will follow up just two weeks later. Community Day Classic events usually focus on Pokemon from previous Community Day events, giving fans an opportunity to catch select Pokemon they may have missed out on.
A new Pokemon GO blog post reveals that Porygon will be the featured Pokemon for the January 20 Community Day event from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time. Porygon will appear more often in the wild, which means Pokemon GO players are more likely to encounter a shiny Porygon. From 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM local time, players who evolve Porygon2 (Porygon’s Evolution) will obtain a Porygon-Z that knows the Tri Attack move. Like previous Pokemon GO Community Day events, Field Research tasks will be available with various rewards, including additional Porygon encounters, Stardust, and Ultra Balls. What's more, a Community Day Classic Special Research story will also be available for $1.00 or a gift ticket.

Unlike typical Community Day events, special raid battles will not be held for the upcoming Community Day Classic event. However, Pokemon GO players may take advantage of limited-time Community Day Classic event bonuses. These bonuses include 3x XP for catching Pokemon, Lure Modules and Incense that last for three hours, and the opportunity to catch Smeargle in Pokemon GO after taking a few snapshots. Moreover, Timed Research will offer three upgrades and three Sinnoh Stones, and PokeStop Showcases will offer enticing rewards for those choosing to show off their newly captured Porygon.
The Community Day Classic event will have fewer event bonuses compared to normal Community Day events, but Pokemon GO players can still reap benefits by participating in the event. The extra XP gains will help players prepare for future raid events, and a fully upgraded Porygon-Z with Tri Attack may be a valuable addition to a player's Pokemon collection. After the Porygon Community Day Classic event ends, the Landorus Pokemon GO raid event will begin on January 24.
