Pokemon GO has confirmed that Mega Rayquaza will be back in the game via June Elite Raids. Pokemon GO added Mega Rayquaza last year during Pokemon GO Fest, marking the first time players could get the Mega form of one of the Gen 3 Legendary Pokemon.
Pokemon GO's Elite Raids are a more challenging variety of traditional raids that players can find in the form of a special Raid Egg. When this egg hatches, Pokemon GO players have 45 minutes to complete the battle, getting the chance to catch the featured Pokemon as a victory reward. Pokemon GO has featured four Elite Raid events since launch, starting with Hoopa Unbound in 2022, followed by Regidrago and Regieleki Elite Raids in 2023. Earlier this year, Pokemon GO held the Enamorus Incarnate Forme Elite Raid, and now the event is back with another powerful Pokemon for players to battle.
Pokemon GO has announced that Mega Rayquaza will be the Pokemon featured in June's Elite Raids. On Saturday, June 29, the Legendary Pokemon will appear more frequently at 12 pm, 1 pm, 5 pm, and 6 pm local time. Along with the chance to get Mega Rayquaza, the event will release a new free Limited Research that will reward Pokemon GO players with Meteorite when they complete the tasks. Unlike other Pokemon, Rayquaza needs Meteorite in addition to Mega Energy to evolve. Before that, trainers need to teach the Charged Attack Dragon Ascent, a good attack for Rayquaza, which is only possible using Meteorites.

In addition to the announcement of the Mega Rayquaza Elite Raids, Pokemon GO has revealed that a new box will be available during the event. The Pokemon GO Web Store will sell the Anniversary Box for $4.99 USD, which comes with three Pokemon GO Remote Passes, an Incubator, and three Premium Battle Passes. Along with the announcement of the new Elite Raids and the Anniversary Box, Pokemon GO has confirmed that players with a Pokémon Trainer Club (PTC) will be able to use their credentials to log in to the Pokemon GO Web Store and enjoy the offers.
Pokemon GO trainers have already done the math, and players planning to join the Mega Rayquaza Elite Raids will have quite a grind ahead of them. Evolving Rayquaza requires 400 Mega Energy, so Pokemon GO players estimate that it will be necessary to battle an Elite Raid in each available time slot. Despite the troubled history of Elite Raids, marked by disconnection, synchronization, and bug problems, the Pokemon GO community hopes that this time, the event will go off without issues.
