Pokemon GO's legendary birds are about to get an upgrade, this time appearing for the first time in their Dynamax forms. The new forms are on their way as part of a special event titled Legendary Flight, which will also provide Pokemon GO players with new research tasks and Max Battles.
The Kanto versions of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres make up the original legendary bird trio that has returned to Pokemon GO through several special events throughout its run. Since the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra expansion in 2022, a lot more attention in Pokemon GO has been dedicated to the release and capture of these three Pokemon's Galarian forms, whose difficult catch rate and penchant for running from battles has taken up much of the spotlight.

Pokemon GO announces a new event to expand its Pokedex with more Paldean Pokemon and details the other bonuses that will be available.
But the Kanto forms are set to take center stage once more when Pokemon GO hosts the Legendary Flight event from January 20 through February 3. As reported on the game's official website, players in the mobile game will be able to find guaranteed fights against Dynamax versions of each of the three legendary birds for exactly one hour through five-star Pokemon GO Max Battles. The first of these battle periods will kick off on the event's launch day, January 20, turning all Power Spots into Max Battle locations featuring Dynamax Articuno. Similar events for Dynamax Zapdos and Dynamax Moltres will follow on the two Mondays following the event's launch date.

Those who miss out on capturing the Dynamax versions of these three legendary Pokemon during their one-hour windows of taking up all Pokemon GO Power Spots won't be completely out of luck. Niantic has confirmed that for one week after each Dynamax form's debut, players will still have a chance of encountering them at Power Spots, though their appearance will no longer be guaranteed for every encounter. Additionally, all three legendary birds have the possibility of showing up in their shiny forms.
To help players along, the event also includes a series of timed research tasks and rewards in Pokemon GO. A different set of research tasks will appear each week, starting at 10:00 a.m. Local time three days before the release of each new Dynamax Pokemon and ending as soon as the new Pokemon makes its debut. Each set of research tasks will reward the player with three Pokemon that are strong against the debuting Dynamax legendary bird's defensive type, with Charmander, Beldum, and Scorbunny appearing on January 17, Drilbur, Cryogonal, and Grookey on January 24, and Squirtle, Krabby, and Sobble on January 31.
