Pokemon GO is finally increasing its level cap from 50 to 80. When Pokemon GO was first released in 2016, the level cap was 40, earned by simply getting as much XP as possible. Then, in 2020, a huge new update was released for Pokemon GO that increased the level cap to 50, but came with a twist.

After the Pokemon GO Go Beyond update, players could reach level 50, but instead of simply earning XP, they had to complete special tasks. This made the journey from level 40 to 50 an especially challenging one, so only the most dedicated managed to do it. Now, five years after the GO Beyond update, Pokemon GO is increasing its level cap yet again and making some major tweaks to leveling in the game in general.

Pokemon GO Level Cap is Going from 50 to 80

On October 15, Pokemon GO is raising the level cap in the game from 50 to 80. Some of the most frequent players will jump ahead in level based on their total XP. Pokemon GO is rebalancing the level curve, so that players will level up faster on the road to 80. This means that the Level-Up Research tasks for 41 to 50 are being removed, and new tasks are being added for the run-up from 71 to 80. Players can also look forward to new rewards tied to level-up progression, with Pokemon storage capacity listed as one such reward. No Pokemon GO players have to worry about going down in level because of the change.

Those that have managed to get all the way to level 50 will even get a special Level 50 Jacket and an exclusive avatar pose.
