Summary
- Pokemon Go players use Master Balls to guarantee catches on rare Pokemon, like Galarian legendary birds.
- Master Balls won't let Pokemon escape, making them ideal for hard-to-catch creatures.
- One Player, however, used a Master Ball to guarantee a "hundo" catch, making the best use of the rare item.
A Pokemon GO player found the "perfect" use for their Master Ball, and it wasn't to catch the Galarian birds. When Pokemon GO first launched, it did so with only three types of Poke Balls for trainers to use when trying to catch Pokemon: regular Poke Balls, Great Balls, and Ultra Balls. However, different Poke Ball types have been added to the augmented reality mobile game in the years since it was first released.
Besides the basic trio of Poke Ball types that were available at launch, Pokemon GO has added Premier Balls, Beast Balls, and Master Balls to the mix. Premier Balls are a special kind of Poke Ball that players only use when defeating Pokemon in Raids or when trying to catch Shadow Pokemon from Team Rocket. Beast Balls, meanwhile, are basically the same as Premier Balls but are used specifically for Ultra Beasts. Pokemon have a chance to jump out of the other Poke Balls, but Master Balls guarantee a catch.
Pokemon GO Update Adds New Quality of Life Feature, But Fans Are Divided
Niantic's all-new feature in Pokemon GO divides the community, but fans have an interesting suggestion to overcome its shortcomings.
Player uses Master Ball to catch a "Hundo" Pokemon
Since Pokemon can't escape from Master Balls, it's no surprise that Pokemon GO players tend to use them on the game's most difficult-to-catch Pokemon. Many Pokemon GO players have used them to catch the Galarian legendary birds since they are so difficult to find, let alone catch, but Reddit user Bladesh75 found an arguably better use for their Master Ball. As shared on Reddit, they came across a "hundo" Kartana and were down to their last Premier Ball. Instead of risking a bad throw or Kartana escaping from the ball yet again, they decided to use their Master Ball to guarantee the catch.
A hundo in Pokemon GO is a Pokemon with perfect stats, making them highly sought-after by trainers. While the Galarian birds may be technically harder to catch than Kartana, the chances of running into another hundo Kartana is also very slim. Not to mention a hundo Kartana would likely have more uses than the Galarian birds.
This is the exact case I’ve been saving my Master Balls for, and I’m happy to have had the safety net to guarantee it!
Other Reddit users commented on the post and praised Bladesh75 for their "perfect" use of the Master Ball, and Bladesh75 indicated that they are saving their other Master Ball for this exact situation.
How to Get a Master Ball in Pokemon GO
- Complete Let's GO! Special Research
- Complete Timed Investigation: Master Ball quest or Special Research: Master Ball
To date, Pokemon GO players could have a maximum of two Master Balls in their inventory. The first Pokemon GO Master Ball was added to the game last year through the Let's GO! Special Research quest. A second Master Ball was made available through the Timed Investigation: Master Ball quest, with players having the option of purchasing the Special Research: Master Ball quest to get one as well if they failed to complete Timed Investigation: Master Ball in time. It's highly likely that Niantic will give Pokemon GO players more opportunities to get Master Balls, but official plans to that effect have not been announced at the time of this writing.
