Mr. Mime, the iconic Pokemon from the first generation (and also known to be quite friendly with Ash Ketchum's mom in the anime), has always been hard to find in Pokemon GO due to it being region-locked. The Psychic/Fairy-type Pokemon can only be found throughout Europe, so if you live in the States, you either need to take a long trip or have a friend who's willing to trade.
However, with the ongoing Kanto Celebration event happening in Pokemon GO, there's special Timed Research happening for several Pokemon, like Kangaskhan and Farfetch'd, that make it easier to get usually unobtainable pocket monsters. The Mime Time Timed Research event kicks off on September 4 at 10 am local time and runs for 24 hours, and you'll be able to get an encounter with it after completing all five tasks.
