Pokemon GO has hit a record low number in terms of new Pokemon that have yet to be released in the mobile augmented reality game, with that number dipping into the double digits for the first time. Currently approaching its 10th anniversary, there are now more than 900 different creatures that Pokemon GO players can add to their collections, and Niantic's options for new additions are quickly running dry.

When Pokemon GO first launched in July 2016, its full roster of catchable monsters was limited to Gen 1 Pokemon, and it didn't even include the full set, as Ditto, Mew, Mewtwo, and the legendary bird trio of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres were all pushed back for later introduction. Starting with that original set of 145, updates over the past nine years have now collectively included the addition of Pokemon from every generation released so far, with several generations now having their full Pokedexes represented in Pokemon GO.

While new additions have kept the game fresh, Pokemon GO is now running into the problem of dwindling numbers of available Pokemon left to release. With the introduction of the Impidimp evolutionary line through Pokemon GO's Nagasaki Wild Area event on November 7, Reddit user Minuro63 has pointed out that there are presently only 99 Pokemon left to add to the game. The addition of Impidimp, Morgrem, and Grimmsnarl pushes the total number of Pokemon in the game to 926 out of the grand total of 1,025 Pokemon in existence, which could make things a little more difficult for publisher and developer Niantic as the mobile game catches up to the main series.

At present, generations 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 are completely tapped out, with just three mythical Gen 4 Pokemon left in Arceus, Manaphy, and Phione. Likewise, numbers of Gen 7 Pokemon not yet appearing in Pokemon GO have fallen to the single digits, while Gen 9's Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and its DLC content hold more than half of the unreleased P okemon GO Pokemon, with 59 to go.

Pokemon GO Temporarily Unavailable in Bangkok

Despite the low number of Pokemon left to add, many fans seem unfazed. Several commenters have pointed out that Pokemon Wind and Wave, the probable names of the main series games revealed in the Pokemon Gen 10 Teraleak from mid-October, will likely contain plenty more Pokemon that can later be added to Pokemon GO. Additionally, while they don't get their own Pokedex entries, others have pointed out that there are still plenty of Dynamax and Mega Evolution variants of existing Pokemon that do not yet appear in Pokemon GO, which should provide the development team with plenty of fuel for future updates.
