Introduced during the Legendary Heroes event, the Pokemon GO Party Share feature allows linked players to benefit from the effects of some premium items. This feature is an addition to the otherwise slightly lackluster Party Play feature introduced in the previous year, which was severely lacking in any incentive beyond some special research for trainers to take advantage of it.

Now that it's here, how does it work and what items can you share with your party members? This guide will explain the latest addition to the Party Play mechanics, as well as detail whether there are any limitations to Party Share itself — and any other Pokemon GO features that it's incompatible with.

According to the news post on the Pokemon GO Live blog, trainers will be able to share Incense, Lucky Eggs, and Star Pieces with their linked up companions in Party Mode. To use it, you need to:

  1. Start a party with a friend by going into the Party tab and get them to scan your QR code.
  2. Choose a task from the list of three available.
  3. Go back into the party tab and click the Share button.
  4. Choose from an Incense, Star Piece, or Lucky Egg. You can then use more than one at a time to increase their effect.

While this is a handy feature, there are several caveats to consider. Firstly, the effects of the item are reduced by half. However, all players in the party get the same 30 minutes bonus, no matter how many there are. Therefore, you're encouraged to have a full party of four to benefit the most from each item used. The best bit is that during events, such as Seasonal Events or Community Days, when the effects of these items are increased, the Party Share versions will also be half of the boosted rates.

There are some limitations to what you do with Party Share. You can't combine the effects of sharing these items with bonuses from Daily Incense, the Coin Bag, or the Mystery Box. Each item has a maximum of four times you can share it with those in your party — but you don't have a limit on how many times you can benefit from other players.

When Is The Best Time To Use Items In Party Share?

If you have a bunch of friends to hang around with, the best times to use Incense are during Spotlight Hours, Community Days, Real-life events, Region events, or Go Fests where there are a lot of rare spawns. If you or your buddies are running low on these items, this can be a handy way to cooperate with friends and spread your resources around, encouraging the use of the Party feature.

Both Lucky Eggs and Star Pieces are best used during Raid Days, Raid Hours or other similar events where the main focus is on raiding. While you're doing raids, this can also add Party Play buffs to your Pokemon during raids, so it's recommended that you keep an eye out for future event bonuses that increase XP or Stardust gains.
