Pokemon GO Max Battle Weekend is the perfect chance for players to catch one of the best Legendaries in the game, with the plus that they're also in their Dynamax forms: Latias and Latios. But trainers don't have infinite Raid Passes, so they should be really careful about which of these Pokemon they focus on getting. Of course, they can pick one of each, but if they want to get more Dynamax energy from either, or pursue the Perfect (Hundo) Latias or Latios, things can get complicated.
Pokemon GO’s August Max Battle Day May Be More Trouble Than It's Worth
Pokemon GO's August Max Battle day is coming up, but after the last two, the upcoming Gigantamax Pokemon might not be too interesting to players.
So, by reading this guide, Pokemon GO players will know everything about Dynamax Latias and Latios. Knowing their best movesets, max CP, stats, strong points, and weak spots will help them choose which of these Dynamax Legendaries they will main during the event.
Should Pokemon GO players pick Dynamax Latias or Dynamax Latios?
For starters, players should know that the Pokemon GO Max Battle Weekend will run from July 26 at 6:00 AM to July 27, 2025, at 9 PM local time, which gives players a day and a half to get their desired Dynamax Legendary. Now, wether to choose Latias and Latios, it can depend on various factors, among them: Their stats. So, let's take a look at each of them.
Dynamax Latias is built as more tanky than Latios, since its base stats are more focused on defense than offense. Dynamax Latias has less max CP but more DEF than Latios, and it has more or less the same attacks as Latios, including its Max Move: Max Wyrmwind (Dragon-type, causes 350 Damage). Latias has the same base STA as Latios, but it resists more attacks due to its superior Defense, and that makes it the tank of this duo. It's a similar case to that of its Mega Latias Form.
Pokemon GO’s Latios and Latias Just Broke a Major Tradition
Pokemon GO's planning to follow an upcoming eventful Monday with more exciting events, and Latios and Latias are leading the charge in unique way.
On the other hand, Dynamax Latios is a bit faster, and hits harder, with superior ATT stat, but inferior DEF than Latias. Dynamax Latios also causes more STAB damage when using Max Wyrmwind, so make sure to bring some defensive Max Pokemon that can resist Dragon-type moves (like Dynamax Hattene). Finally, Dynamax Latios reaches a higher CP than Latias (since from the Legendary duo, it is the one that reaches more max CP in its regular form).
Movesets for the two Pokemon are similar, with Dragon Breath and Psychic being their primed combo. Still, players should focus on whichever of these Pokemon they think is a better addition to their roster. Dynamax Latias will become a decent tank for future Dynamax Battles, while Dynamax Latios has considerably more Total Damage Output, and can act as a powerful Dragon-type attacker. Both of these Pokemon will be strong allies when the Dynamax Eternatus Max Battle arrive to Pokemon GO, so getting both would be a big plus for trainers.
Players can currently claim a Research that leads to catching Dynamax Cinderace, Rillaboom, or Inteleon. Using the code GOMAXFEST on the Pokemon GO code redemption site.
It is also important to remember that during this event, the following bonuses will be active:
- Max Particle collection limit increased to 1,600
- 1/4 Adventuring distance to receive Max Particles
- Power Spots will refresh more frequently
- 8× Max Particles from Power Spots
- 3/4 Max Particle cost for unlocking and powering up Max Moves (from July 26 at 6:00 AM to July 27, 2025, at 9 PM local time).
Dynamax Latias and Latios can also be Shiny, so players who encounter one after the Raid battle is over have a 100% chance to get them, as Shiny Raid Pokemon are a guaranteed catch.
Players can check out local community groups (Discord, Whatsapp, Telegram) to help them build groups for Dynamax Battles. But be always careful, never give away personal information, and take the appropriate measures to be safe. Good luck trainers!
