Max Finale has taken its final bow, and the Delightful Days season is soon to end in Pokemon GO so the next one to take its place. The upcoming season seems to combine the new Dynamax mechanic, rotating old Mythicals and Legendaries, and the return of Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Tales of Transformation begins on September 2, bringing with it additional candies, special research, three new Mega Evolutions, and more.
Just like all the other Pokemon GO seasons that came before it and it, there are likely tons more surprises for players will be revealed as Tales of Transformation progresses. Still, though, there's one part of Tales of Transformation that might have fans aiming to free their schedules for some Mega Energy hunts already. Mega Metagross is coming to Pokemon GO, and as Metagross is already one of the strongest creatures in the game, this transformation will only make it even more of a menace in battle.
Metagross Will Continue to Be a Threat in the Pokemon GO
Metagross was introduced in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire and is what is considered by fans to be a "psuedo-legendary" Pokemon. Psuedo-legendaries are given the title based on their evolutionary line and final stats, with psuedo-legendary Pokemon having such high stats they might rival the creatures on the box of the game they're in. Metagross in particular has remained popular for its unique design, common association with Elite Four member Steven Stone, and—thanks to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire—its capability for Mega Evolution. According to its Pokedex entries, Metagross' evolutionary progression gives it four calculating brains, and Mega Evolution stimulates it so much that it leads to it being ruthless in battle.
Metagross Has Been a Standout Pokemon in Many Entries
As one of the Pokemon used to advertise Generation 3 when it was first released, Metagross' popularity goes hand-in-hand with its powerful stats. In the mainline games, it boasts a strong 135 Attack stat and 130 Defense stat, and this only goes higher with Mega Evolution, ending up at 145 Attack and 150 Defense with every other stat boosted up into the hundreds. It used to be a strong asset to players' teams in Generation 6 for that reason, but depending on the included list of Pokemon in competitive rotation, it's only a decent choice. Pokemon GO has kept it on top in the meantime, though.
In Pokemon GO, Metagross sits as one of the strongest attackers for Steel-type and Psychic-type thanks to its high 257 ATK and 228 DEF stats. For comparison, Mega Lucario boasts 310 ATK and 175 DEF. With Mega Evolution, fans are looking at watching Metagross' stats increase all the way to 300 ATK and 289 DEF. This almost puts it on a playing field with other strong attackers like Crowned Sword Zacian. It'll also enter the small pool of Pokemon that can Dynamax and Mega Evolve once Mega Metagross is added to the game. This makes Metagross a very flexible option for most players' teams, and combined with Metagross' popularity, might lead to Mega Metagross' debut being a noticeable shift for Pokemon GO.
With how Mega Evolution works with players to slowly decrease the Mega Energy cost overtime, players will likely take advantage of this event to stockpile energy to keep Mega Metagross in their line-ups for a while. Through the Iron Leg Pokemon's popularity, players shouldn't have a shortage of people to raid with, either. Fans should go ahead and mark their calendars when Mega Metagross releases, because it's bound to be a big day for the game at large. If players haven't paid close attention to their team's stats, the introduction of Mega Metagross may be the best place to start.
