Pokemon GO' Season 20 has been officially revealed. Called Tales of Transformation, the upcoming update promises a fairly decent variety of themed content, including new Gigantamax debuts, more Pokemon GO Mega Evolutions, and a major focus on Keldeo.
November 2025 will mark the fifth anniversary of Pokemon GO seasons, originally introduced as part of Niantic's efforts to overhaul its game-making practices, smoothing out its content delivery pipeline with the goal of reducing developer stress and making major updates more predictable in their timing. The quarterly structure allowed the company to prioritize fewer—but noticeably more content-packed—updates, introduced multi-month character arcs, and helped establish competitive play as a core part of Pokemon GO's identity, prompting Niantic to reorganize its GO Battle League calendar in order to have it sync up with the overarching seasons better.

Pokemon GO Season 20 To Focus on Keldeo and New Form Mechanics
After teasing the advent of Pokemon GO's Tales of Transformation era on several occasions, Niantic has at last formally announced the game's next season earlier today, August 26. Headlining the upcoming content update is a special research storyline focused on Keldeo, the Gen 5 Colt Pokemon whose Resolute form will finally be debuting in Pokemon GO during the new season.
Though Keldeo's been part of Pokemon GO for nearly three years, Niantic's insistence on postponing the arrival of its Resolute form was possibly rooted in a desire to save it for a moment of maximum impact. In that regard, an entire season dedicated to the theme of transformation is about as opportune of a moment as Keldeo is going to get to shine in Pokemon GO.
Players will unlock new stages of the colorful mon's upcoming quest as the season progresses. The broader theme of transformation will also play out via new Mega debuts, even more Dynamax and Gigantamax encounters, and a big spotlight being shone on other multi-form pocket monsters for the entirety of the season. Niantic has also teased the arrival of even more alternate Pokemon forms during Tales of Transformation.

As is usually the case, the studio's latest season announcement saw Niantic attach a concrete schedule to Tales of Transformation: the new season will run for exactly three months, from September 2 to December 2, beginning and ending at 10am local time. Pokemon GO players will be able to grab a distinctive variant of Cobalion with the Tales of Transformation background throughout September. Terrakion and Virizion will be the featured Pokemon for October and November 2025, respectively.

Tales of Resolution!

- Trainers who have already caught Keldeo can continue their journey with it and receive Keldeo Candy that they can use to power up.
- The Tales of Transformation Special Research will be available to claim from Tuesday, September 2, at 10:00 a.m. To Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 9:59 a.m. Local time.

A more engaging and rewarding journey!
Pokémon GO’s leveling up journey is being rebalanced to add more to the experience! On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Pokémon GO will release an update that increases the level cap from 50 to 80. This update will make the leveling journey more fun and engaging by celebrating leveling milestones with new rewards, new cosmetics, and more. And with this update, a number of players can expect to jump in level based on their total earned XP. But don’t worry—no player will go down in level!
From August 25 at 1:00 p.m. PDT until October 14, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Local time, all Trainers will get the following bonuses. These bonuses will stack with other event bonuses!
- 2× Catch XP from Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws
- +3,000 XP from winning raids
- +3,000 XP from winning Max Battles
Additionally, Timed Research will be available for all Trainers over level 5. This expansive research awards over 7 million XP!
