Pokemon GO has outlined its September 2025 content update, headlined by the debut of Mega Sharpedo in limited-time raids. Some Kanto favorites are also returning to Pokemon GO next month, appearing alongside themed events and rotating Mega Evolutions, among other novelties.

Pokemon GO's monthly content updates typically include raids, an ever-shifting array of trainer bonuses, and Spotlight Hours. The September 2025 roadmap will largely follow the same pattern.

Pokemon GO Level Cap is Getting a Huge Increase

Five years after its last level cap increase, Pokemon GO is increasing its level cap yet again while making some other major changes at the same time.

One of the highlights of next month's offerings, Mega Sharpedo is set to debut in the game on September 7. It will arrive as part of yet another Pokemon GO Raid Day, a three-hour event taking place between 2pm and 5pm local time. While it's not uncommon for Niantic to hold separate shiny debuts for some pocket monsters, that won't be the case this time around, as Mega Sharpedo will have a chance of being shiny. As always, players will need to complete a raid to find out whether they got lucky or not, as all raid varians of Sharpedo will be non-shiny. The shiny chance itself will be boosted, in accordance with the typical Raid Day ruleset.

Pokemon GO September Content Update Overview

Beyond Sharpedo, Pokemon GO's Mega Raid schedule for next month includes sone Kanto favorites, beginning on September 2 with Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard X and Y, and Mega Blastoise. Their raids will be available until September 9, when they will be replaced by Mega Pidgeot and Mega Gyarados. Another rotation is then scheduled for September 16, when raids involving Mega Gardevoir, Mega Latias and Latios, and Mega Gallade are set to start their week-long run. In the final full week of next month, Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Lopunny will be available from September 23 to 30. They'll then be replaced with Mega Raids featuring Mega Steelix, Mega Scizor, and Mega Lucario. All of the Megas for September will have a chance to be shiny.

On September 2, Pokemon GO Season 20 is scheduled to kick off. It will begin with a Kanto Celebration event, featuring wild encounters with regional Pokemon, legacy move evolutions, and Dynamax versions of the legendary birds—Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres—available via paid Special Research. The event will also introduce collection challenges that players will be able to complete in exchange for Mega Energy. Kanto Celebration will run until September 7, with its end coinciding with Mega Sharpedo Raid Day.

Pokemon GO Spotlight Hours for September 2025 will include Pidgey, Trubbish, Gothita, Hoothoot, and Aron, in that order. As always, each will take place on a Tuesday, between 6pm and 7pm local time.
