Niantic announced that the Pokemon GO Yamask Research Day event will be held on October 19 for a limited time. During the new Research Day event, Pokemon GO players will be able to encounter and catch Yamask and Galarian Yamask, with additional bonuses to gain from completing Field Research tasks.
Pokemon GO Max Out, the game's latest season, began on September 10 and introduced Dynamax Pokemon from Pokemon Sword and Shield. Themed around the Galar region's Pokemon and the Dynamax form, the Max Out season will bring several limited-time events through December 3, including monthly Pokemon GO Community Day events. Roughly a month after the season began, Niantic revealed a new Research Day event that would spotlight Yamask and its Galarian variant, remaining consistent with the theme of Max Out. The event's reveal also appears to corroborate prior leaks about Pokemon GO's event schedule for October 2024.

The Pokemon GO Yamask and Galarian Yamask Research Day event will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. To 5:00 p.m. Local time. Event-themed Field Research tasks may be completed to earn encounters with these Pokemon, and there's an increased chance to encounter a shiny Pokemon as well. During the event, Cubone, Zigzagoon, Galarian Zigzagoon, Duskull, and Shieldon will also appear more frequently in the wild. Those wanting to gain additional rewards and encounters with Yamask and Galarian Yamask may also purchase an event-exclusive Timed Research in the Pokemon GO in-game shop for $2. The Timed Research and its associated rewards will expire on October 19 at 5:00 p.m. Local time along with the event, so players should claim their rewards as soon as possible.

It's worth noting that players may purchase the Yamask and Galarian Yamask Timed Research and give it to friends with a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher. Timed Research gift tickets are non-refundable and cannot be purchased with PokeCoins, however.
Five days before the event begins, the Lucario Mask avatar item from the Pokemon GO Ultra Unlock event will finally be made available for purchase within the in-game shop. The Solgaleo, Yamask, Festival (Pikachu), Festival (Eevee), Pikachu, Sableye, and Banette Masks will also be available in the shop starting October 14.
A few days after the Yamask Research Day event ends, Pokemon GO players may participate in the Halloween Part 1 event from October 22 to 28. During the event, players may encounter Morpeko, who's able to switch between Full Belly and Hangry Modes in battle.
