As of February 27, 2022, Pokemon Legends: Arceus received an update titled "Daybreak." The new Pokemon Legends: Arceus Daybreak included new content for those that have completed the main story. Some new features include a new Berry harvest in Jubilife Village, more trainers to battle at the Training Grounds, and a handful of postgame Requests. One feature that stands in the Daybreak update is the new Massive Mass Outbreaks.

A Mass Outbreak in Pokemon Legends: Arceus is when a species of Pokemon have been sighted in one of Hisui's regions. Normally, a group of 15 Pokemon appears per Outbreak, but the Massive Mass Outbreaks take it a step further. There was only one Outbreak of Pokemon per region prior to the Daybreak update. Massive Mass Outbreaks can have multiple Outbreaks simultaneously in one area. To get them, there are a few tasks players must first complete.

Unlocking Massive Mass Outbreaks

Massive Mass Outbreaks are locked behind a Request given by Mai of the Diamond Clan. Players will need to first view the end credits of Pokemon Legends: Arceus before the Request becomes available.

Once this is done, visit the Obisidian Fieldlands and warp to the Heights Camp. Speak to Mai and her Munchlax to start Request 95: A New Anomaly, then go to the objective marker on Ramanas Island. There, players will run into a horde of Zorua, which are not Pokemon that live in the Obsidian Fieldlands. Players can either catch them or leave them, but the next step is to return to Mai at the Heights Camp. This will then push trainers to report to Cyllene in Jubilife Village, who dubs this new phenomenon as "Massive Mass Outbreaks." Players will then start Request 96: Massive Mass Outbreak in the Fieldlands.

On the map, Massive Mass Outbreaks are not indicated by a Pokemon's face. Instead, there will be a Question Mark icon. There will be heavy rain/snow during a Massive Mass Outbreak, and checking the map indicates where the Outbreaks are taking place. There will be multiple Question Mark icons that become Pokemon Outbreak icons once the Question Mark Outbreak is identified.

A Massive Mass Outbreak will last as long as it's raining/snowing (Alabaster Icelands). Players will receive notifications as they wander the area, indicating how long the Outbreaks are going to last.

After investigating two Massive Mass Outbreaks in the Fieldlands, report back to Mai, and Massive Mass Outbreaks will start appearing in the Fieldlands. Requests 97-101 will be handed out after completing Request 96, which has the player investigating Massive Mass Outbreaks in the remaining areas of Hisui.

How to Trigger Massive Mass Outbreaks

To get a Massive Mass Outbreak to occur, simply exit in and out of Jubilife Village.

  1. Head to the Front Gate.
  2. If Ress (the gate guard) doesn't mention reports of a Massive Mass Outbreak, select any one of Hisui's regions (Fieldlands, Mirelands, Highlands, Coastlands, or Icelands).
  3. Speak to Laventon to return to Jubilife Village.
  4. Go to the Front Gate again and repeat this process if Ress still has no reports of a Massive Mass Outbreak. Eventually, he'll make a mention of a Massive Mass Outbreak.

This is the same method to getting regular Pokemon Outbreaks to occur.

Remember that a Massive Mass Outbreak is indicated by the Question Mark icon. If the icon that appears when selecting a region features a Pokemon, then it is a regular Mass Outbreak.

More Information About Massive Mass Outbreaks

Players who like Shiny Hunting are recommended to keep trying to get Massive Mass Outbreaks. Without Research Levels and the Shiny Charm factored in, the Shiny Rate of a Massive Mass Outbreak is 1/315.

Because Massive Mass Outbreaks are timed, it's easier to catch the Pokemon in an Outbreak instead of battling them. Pay attention to the messages at the top-middle of the screen about the Outbreaks. If the message indicates that the weather is starting to clear, then players may be able to visit one more Outbreak in the area before the Massive Mass Outbreaks end.

Bring Ultra Balls, Stealth Sprays, and Sticky Globs before confronting a Massive Mass Outbreak. Mud Balls, Snowballs, and Spoiled Apricorns don't work as well as Sticky Globs, but they're good to have on hand if players don't have enough materials for crafting items that can stun Pokemon.

Finally, unlike regular Mass Outbreaks, there's a chance of a Massive Mass Outbreak having Alpha Pokemon. Outbreaks with a "gold background" behind the Pokemon icon indicate a Special Outbreak. Clearing these out will cause another Outbreak to appear, which could be an Outbreak of Alpha Pokemon.

Be careful when confronting Outbreaks of Alpha Pokemon since they're harder to catch and much more dangerous than regular Pokemon. It's best to remain undetected when approaching Alpha Outbreaks, so use Smoke Balms and Stealth Sprays to decrease the chances of being detected.
