Pokemon Legends: Arceus players will be able to take on Request 66 (The Sea's Legend), once they get past Mission 10, The Lordless Island, and have made their start with Mission 11, Scaling Perilous Heights. If players go inside Galaxy Hall, they can go into Laventon's room to check out the Request board. The Sea's Legend comes from the professor himself and will require multiple steps to complete. Players should expect to spend at least 30 minutes total to get to the end of Request 66 and claim its reward: the Mythical Pokemon Manaphy.
The professor tells players that he's looking for a Pokemon that was seen swimming towards Cobalt Coastlands, and Iscan mentions the story of a "princely Pokemon" found in a book called "The Sea's Legend." This book can be found in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's Canalave Library. It mentions three Pokemon that can be found in the Hisui and the Sinnoh region: Mantyke, Buizel, and Qwilfish. In order to complete this quest and find the Manaphy for Laventon, players will need to catch all three of these Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. However, the Qwilfish will need to be evolved into an Overqwil.
The Sea's Legend Walkthrough
Getting Mantyke, Buizel, and Qwilfish
To get Buizel in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, there's an abundance of them in the very first starting area in Obsidian Fieldlands. As for Mantyke, players should start seeing them in the water once they unlock the ability to ride on top of Basculegion. Look for Mantyke in Cobalt Coastlands Ginkgo Landing or Tranquility Cove. Qwilfish can also be found in beachy areas, such as Cobalt Coastlands (Tranquility Cove, Lunker's Lair, Islespy Shore) and Obsidian Fieldlands' Ramanas Island.
Evolving Qwilfish to Overqwil
The Buizel and the Mantyke will not need to be evolved for this Request, but players will need to evolve Qwilfish into an Overqwil, but it should not take too long. For it to evolve, players need to use the move Barb Barrage 20 times in Strong Style. The best way to do this is to just go to Obsidian Fieldlands and start fighting every wild Pokemon. Once Qwilfish runs out of PP for Barb Barrage, players can go back to Camp to heal up and then go back out to fighting. When the move is used 20 times, Qwilfish will be ready to evolve in the Satchel menu, and the quest can progress.
Heading to Cobalt Coastlands
After getting all three of the needed Pokemon, players should travel to Cobalt Coastlands and head to the Coastlands Camp. If players don't have access to that camp yet, they can just go to Beachside Camp instead. However, before doing anything, make sure to set the time of day to Midday by speaking to the NPC at camp. Players need to have Overqwil, Buizel, and Mantyke in the party before going to the next step in the Request.
To the far east of Colbalt Coastlands, Pokemon Legends: Arceus players will find a structure that resembles two pincers coming out of the ocean. Readers can see the location in the two images down below for reference.
Use the ride Pokemon to travel underneath the "pincers," and this message will appear on-screen: "You heard something that sounded like a cry and a boulder shifting the distance." The game won't tell players what to do next, but there is a cave in this area that has now opened up, and inside will be the Manaphy for players to catch for the Pokemon professor.
Before going to the cave, though, players should switch out Mantyke, Buizel, and Overqwil for some stronger Pokemon, as the fight with Manaphy in the cave will not be easy, as it's joined by a group of Phione, the pre-evolution of Manaphy. The three Pokemon aren't needed anymore for the Request, as long as players get the message underneath the structures in the ocean.
Finding Manaphy's Cave
The cave that has opened up is called Seaside Hollow and can be entered from the north side of Veilstone Cape. Players can either surf to the right and then around the entire land area, or just go through the path under it to get to the other side. It's marked on the map above for those having issues locating it.
Fighting Manaphy and Phione
Once players enter the cave, a short cutscene will play out, and then an encounter with Manaphy and three Phione will begin. If players immediately throw a Poke Ball at Manaphy, it won't work since it's already aggravated. Players will need to go into a battle with it and weaken it until it can be caught with any Poke Ball.
Manaphy is level 50, and the Phione are in their 30s, so this can be a tough fight if players challenge all four Pokemon at once. The best thing to do is to separate Manaphy from the rest of the Pokemon and challenge it by itself. Alternatively, players can catch or defeat the Phione first and then go after Manaphy.
Once it's caught, take it back to professor Laventon, and players will be rewarded with three Comet Shards.
