Some Pokemon Legends: Z-A players think they’ve spotted an Ash Ketchum and Pikachu Easter egg while running around in the game. Highly anticipated since its announcement, Pokemon Legends: Z-A returns players to the Kalos region that was first introduced in 2013’s Pokemon X and Y. Set in Lumiose City, which was created with Paris as inspiration, it lets players investigate the urban location both day and night.
Launched on Nintendo Switch platforms on October 16, the latest Pokemon video game release has generally been received positively by critics, while players have had a few more complaints. The title currently has an 83 critic average on OpenCritic, but Pokemon Legends: Z-A received a wave of negative reviews from players upon release, and its user score on review aggregate site Metacritic now sits at 4.7. The grievances are many, from technical issues to lack of an open world to a weak story. Despite this, fans of the Pokemon series have also been finding things to get excited about within the game.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Mega Dimension DLC Release Date Seems Obvious
While no specific date has been announced, Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Mega Dimension DLC has the perfect release window on the horizon.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Gives a Nod to Ash and Pikachu
A couple of players have spotted a nod to Ash Ketchum and his eternal sidekick Pikachu hanging out in the overworld of Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Content creator ChocolateKieran shared the info, and ThePokeRaf recorded the discovery. In a Lumiose City park, the player encounters an NPC named Pikami hanging out with a Pikachu in a tennis court. The young boy is wearing a blue and green jacket, red sneakers, and a red beanie, and the color scheme seems to be a definite callback to the legendary Pokemon collector. Upon engaging him in conversation, Pikami states confidently, “My Pikachu’s the strongest in the world!” This initiates Side Mission 107: The World’s Greatest Pikachu, with Pikami challenging the player to a 1v1 against his high-level Pikachu. In battle, the young combatant even holds his Poke Ball similarly to Ash before tossing it down.
If players come across the Ash and Pikachu Easter egg before they’re ready for battle, there are a couple of ways to find a Pikachu for themselves in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Of course, they can just play through the game until they reach Wild Zone 3, where some Pikachus are hanging out. Or they can evolve a Pichu, which can be found in Wild Zone 1. And for fans of the series, it’ll be well worth it to battle the Ash clone.
There are undoubtedly plenty of other discoveries awaiting players, some more clandestine than others. For example, a glitch to duplicate shiny Pokemon in Legends: Z-A was recently uncovered, allowing hunters to grab a few clones to trade.
