Pokemon Legends Z-A has changed many of its core mechanics, and combat is the most notorious change. So if trainers are looking for the best Electric-type Pokemon for their teams, they should know that the meta has suffered a lot of alterations, the biggest of all being the disappearance of Abilities. With the new combat system to consider, it is hard to really know the utility of a type that has always been characterized by its fast and deadly attacks, and with moves like Thunder becoming easy to dodge, building an Electric-type has never been so hard.

This guide will offer information about the best Electric-type Pokemon in Legends Z-A, classified in terms of combat utility, PvP/PvE viability, moveset, and those with access to Mega Evolutions or Broken Builds that are currently viable in the competitive Meta. Starting from top to bottom, here are the best Electric-type attackers players can find in Pokemon Legends Z-A.

S-Tier Electric-type In Pokemon Legends Z-A

The following Electric Pokemon have both high competitive value and are decent picks for a late-game/end-game lineup. Below, players will find optimized builds for the strongest Electric-types currently available in Pokemon Legends-ZA.

Pikachu(With Light Ball)

  • Mega Eelektross is the safe choice, combining decent levels of Atk and SpA, and can be built as a Hybrid attacker with Crunch, Liquidation, Thunderbolt, and Charge. (Recommended Natures: Quiet/Brave - Recommended EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 Atk or SpA/4SpDef).
  • Mega Ampharos is stronger in terms of Special Attack, so build it for that. Use the following moveset: Power Gem, Dragon Pulse, Thunderbolt, Light Screen. (Recommended Nature: Modest - Recommended EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 SpA/ 4 Def).
  • Mega Manectric is the fastest pure Electric Type of Legends Z-A, and has access to a few coverage moves of the Fire-type. Use this moveset to make it stronger in both competitive and PvE: Charge, Thunderbolt, Volt Switch, Overheat. (Recommended Nature: Modest/Timid - Recommended EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 Speed/ 4 HP).
  • Pikachu is back to action with its glass-cannon build thanks to the held item Light Orb (World's Greatest Pikachu Mission), which doubles its Atk and SpAtk stats. This gives trainers the chance to build an uber-trained Pikachu with the correct Ev values and moveset to surprise their rivals and sweep them before they know what's going on. Pick this moveset: Volt Tackle, Iron Tail (or Surf), Dig, and Brick Break. (Recommended Nature: Modest/Timid - Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA or Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 HP).

Where to Get Mega Eelektross, Ampharos, Manectric, and Pikachu

To get Eelektross, players need to evolve an Eelektrik using a Thunder Stone. Eelektrik evolves from Tynamo, which can be caught in Wild Zone 10. Then, to Mega Evolve Eelektross into Mega Eelektross, players need to acquire Eelektrossite from Quasartico Inc., bought for 240 Mega Shards.

To get Ampharos, players can catch a Mareep relatively early in Wild Zone 1 and evolve it into Flaaffy once it reaches level 15. Flaaffy evolves into Ampharos at level 30. To evolve Ampharos into Mega Ampharos, players need Ampharosite obtained during the Main Mission #23: A Rogue Mega Ampharos.

To get Manectric, players need to catch an Electrike found in Wild Zone 5, and evolve it when it reaches level 26. Players can get the Manectite needed for its Mega Evolution for 180 Mega Shards at Quasartico Inc.

Pikachu is the easiest to catch and train, since it can be found roaming around Wild Zone 3 or evolved from a Pichufound in Wild Zone 1.

S-Tier is subjected to changes once Mega Dimension X DLC goes out, since it will include new Electric-types like Mega Raichu X & Y.

A-Tier Electric-type In Pokemon Legends Z-A

A Tier Electric-type Pokemon in Legends Z-A are somewhat acceptable during the mid/late game, though they become troublesome to train and prepare for Ranked Battles. Ideally, trainers should be aiming for S-Tier, but the truth is everyone tries to win with their favorites, and that's the very essence of being a Pokemon Trainer.

Alolan Raichu

  • Jolteon ranks relatively high in terms of speed, getting priority in most encounters, so it can build to deflect with Protect, Electro Web, Thunderbolt, and Shadow Ball or Hyper Voice for some extra coverage just in case. (Recommended Nature: Modest/Timid - Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA / 252 Speed/ 4 HP).
  • Raichu is not as powerful as one should expect, but it will become even stronger once its Mega Evolutions are released. A skilled trainer can make the most out of it by using the following moveset: Thunder Wave, Charge, Thunderbolt, Surf. (Recommended Nature: Modest/Timid/Mild/Rash - Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA / 252 Speed/ 4 HP).
  • Heliolisk is an interesting Pokemon due to its dual typing and its access to certain coverage moves. But it's not so great in terms of competitive value. Build it with the following moveset: Charge, Volt Switch, Solar Beam, Thunderbolt. (Recommended Nature: Timid/Rash - Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA / 252 Speed/ 4 HP).
  • Alolan Raichu is the black horse in terms of coverage and adaptability. Thanks to its dual-type, it can learn certain moves that make it an interesting choice for late-game PvE or some strategies in Ranked Battles. Here's its ideal moveset: Play Rough, Charge, Thunder Punch or Thunderbolt, Psyshock or Discharge. (Recommended Nature: Timid/Modest - Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA or Atk / 252 Speed/ 4 HP).

Where to Get Jolteon, Raichu, Alolan Raichu, and Heliolisk

To get Jolteon, players need to catch and evolve Eevee using a Thunder Stone. There's an Eevee Spawn in Wild Zone 19 and players can also find one roaming around the small inner garden north of Wild Zone 1 which is easily accessible through an alley south of the Pokemon Center in that area. Eevee only spawns on Sunny Weather.

Raichu can be caught in its Alpha state in Wild Zone 20 but players can also catch a Pichu in Wild Zone 1, and evolve it when reaching max friendship to Pikachu, which then evolves into Raichu using a Thunder Stone. Pikachu also spawns in Wild Zone 3.

To get Heliolisk, players need to capture a Helioptile which only spawns on Sunny Weather in Wild Zone 14, though catching a Shiny one is a near-impossible task due to its low spawning rate.

Alolan Raichu can be obtained by completing Side Mission 108: Alola, Raichu! And players will need to trade a Regular Raichu for the Alolan Regional Form.

B-Tier and Lower Electric-type In Pokemon Legends Z-A

Here are the remaining Electric-type Pokemon in Legends Z-A, from the highlighted B-Tier to the bottom C and D tiers that have no real competitive or end-game value, since they're prior stages of other Electric-types mentioned in the upper tiers. From this list though, there are three that could make do thanks to their dual-typing: Emolga, Dedenne, and Stunfisk.

Dedenne

Stunfisk

  • Emolga is difficult to catch at the start of the adventure and not particularly strong, but it can be trained properly to reach acceptable power levels. Try the following moveset: Air Slash, Nuzzle, Volt Switch, and Energy Ball for coverage. (Recommended Nature: Timid/Modest - Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA / 252 Speed/ 4 HP).
  • Dedenne is unique in terms of typing (at least in Legends Z-A) and can learn a fair amount of coverage moves. Use the following moveset: Dazzling Gleam, Parabolic Charge, Charge, Discharge. (Recommended Nature: Timid/Modest - Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA / 252 HP/ 4 Speed).
  • Stunfisk has always been a curious case of opposite types merged in one (Electric/Ground), but this also makes it vulnerable to Grass, Water, Ice, and Ground, so its viability is questionable. However, in competitive, it's a good Stealth Rock deployer and defensive Pokemon. Here's its ideal moveset: Stealth Rock, Protect, Discharge, Earthquake. (Recommended Nature: Relaxed/Sassy - Recommended EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SpA).

Where to Get Emolga, Dedenne, and Stunfisk

Emolga can be seen roaming around the rooftops of Wild Zone 3. Players need to climb the Holovator west of the Square Tower for the Shiny Trick and check around the rooftop of the street market alley to find it roaming.

Dedenne can be found on the rooftops near Cafe Triste, in the Magenta Sector, on the northwestern side of Lumiose City. Players can travel to Wild Zone 18 and go south from that location to find an access point to the rooftops where Dedenne roams.

Stunfisk is the easiest to catch from all of these Pokemon. It can be found by the bunch hiding among the riverbank reeds of Wild Zone 11. Be careful with the amount of aggresive Pokemon in this area, especially the Alpha Clawitzer.

As mentioned before, the remaining Electric-type shouldn't be considered viable in terms of PvE/PvP usefulness, since they're weaker than their evolutions: Pichu, Tynamo, Eelektrik, Helioptile, Electrike, Mareep, Flaffy.
