On September 4, Pokemon Legends: Z-A posted a strange video that showed trainers going crazy over Malamar, which could indicate the sixth-generation critter may receive a Mega Evolution in the upcoming title. While past Pokemon Legends: Z-A leaks indicated that Malamar would receive a Mega Evolution form, The Pokemon Company has kept further details under wraps.

Known as the Overturning Pokemon, Malamar first appeared in Pokemon X and Y as the evolved form of Inkay. Malamar is a squid-like Dark and Psychic Pokemon that has a unique evolution method. After leveling an Inkay to 30, it can become a Malamar by turning the respective game console of the Pokemon game being played upside down. Though its base stats are average across the board, Malamar can learn the fittingly named move Topsy-Turvy to reverse the stat changes of its target and turn its power against it. Malamar can also use various attacks, such as Superpower, Night Slash, and Psybeam, to wear down its foes.

Pokemon Shares Strange Malamar Video Montage

One week after revealing Mega Hawlucha is coming to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, The Pokemon Company offered a short but strange video that focused entirely on Malamar. On Pokemon's various social media feeds, the company posted a cryptic video titled "Malamar.mp4" that showed different people expressing their excitement over Malamar. One clip portrayed Malamar as a graffiti art mural, while another showed a man driving a car filled with several Malamar plush dolls and stickers. The third clip of the video showed another man dancing while wearing a Malamar shirt. In response to the surprising video post, Pokemon fans guessed that it was a tease for Mega Malamar, which would mark the second Gen 6 creature to receive a Mega form in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, following Mega Hawlucha's reveal.

The Pokemon Company did not share any further details related to Malamar. While not officially confirmed as of this writing, a previous leak that listed the new Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Evolutions included Malamar on the list of candidates. So far, the leaked Mega Evolution list is a perfect 3-for-3, as Mega Dragonite, Victreebel, and Hawlucha have been officially revealed in various videos.

However, 23 additional Mega Evolutions listed in the leaks have yet to be confirmed in any official capacity. With Pokemon Legends: Z-A's October 16 release date fast approaching, it remains to be seen how many more Mega Evolutions will be revealed beforehand, and which ones will be left for players to discover in-game.
