Summary
- A leak previews what Mega Feraligatr could look like in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, generating mixed reactions from fans.
- The image sparks speculation about Mega Feraligatr's design, with possible Druddigon and Cubone influences.
A leaked image reportedly from Pokemon Legends: Z-A is giving players their first glimpse of what Mega Feraligatr might look like when it arrives in 2025. Mega Evolution is a big focus of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but this supposed partial image of the Gen 2 starter's next form is leaving some fans of the Pokemon franchise confused.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A will take place in the Kalos region, an area modeled after central and northern France that first appeared in Pokemon X and Y. This pair of games introduced the concept of Mega Evolution in 2013, and Nintendo seems to be drawing on that aspect of Kalos with its next title in the Legends series. In late March, CetroLeaks leaked 27 new Mega Evolutions coming in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and while the validity of all those Pokemon has not yet been confirmed by Nintendo, many fans have been eagerly anticipating their reveals.
The Case for Pokemon Legends: Z-A To Feature Terastallization
While Pokemon Legends: Z-A already has a lot of things for players to look forward to, perhaps Terastallization can be a part of that list.
Now, an image that began circulating on 4chan and shared on Reddit claims to show a portion of Mega Feraligatr, the Mega Evolved form of Totodile, Pokemon's Water-type starter from the Johto region who will also be one of the starters in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. This image shows a Feraligatr with closed eyes and an open maw, and many familiar features from its non-Mega Evolved form are clearly present, including its blue and yellow color scheme, pear-shaped body type, single-stripe chevron pattern on its belly, and spiked red dorsal ridge. Unlike its current form, this supposed Mega Evolution adds a few more red spikes and what appears to be a red skull helmet to Feraligatr.
Rumored Mega Feraligatr Image from Pokemon Legends: Z-A Leaks Online
Not all Pokemon fans are convinced that this image is legitimate, and many have been comparing it to a specific Dragon-type Pokemon. The solid red coloration of this supposed Mega Feraligatr's head covering is particularly reminiscent of Druddigon, the Cave Dragon Pokemon introduced in Generation 5, which bears a similar color scheme to Feraligatr but whose most striking physical feature is its solid red head, which starkly contrasts the rest of its body. The leaked image shows that the red portion of this Pokemon's head appears to be a covering, with parts of its actual blue and yellow snot peeking out from underneath, and many fans have been picking up on the aspects of both Feraligatr and Druddigon that the image features.
Others have speculated that the new Mega Evolution may be taking inspiration from Cubone's skull-wearing quirk. One of the original 151, Cubone's sad backstory has always attracted a lot of sympathy, as it states that the tiny dinosaur-like Pokemon wears its dead mother's skull as a helmet in remembrance of her. It's not clear why a Feraligatr would have an emotional attachment to a Druddigon's skull, but more may be revealed as the late 2025 release of Pokemon Legenda: Z-A approaches.
