One excited Pokemon player is making their own custom Mega Evolution concepts in preparation for the mechanic’s return in the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Mega Evolutions were introduced in Pokemon X and Y and grant the Pokemon using them a powerful new form with special abilities that they normally can’t access. Unlike normal Pokemon evolutions that are permanent and triggered by fulfilling various conditions, Mega Evolutions only last as long as a battle and require the Pokemon in question to be holding a specific item called a Mega Stone.

Mega Evolutions haven’t appeared in a mainline Pokemon game since Generation 7, but Game Freak recently confirmed that the mechanic will return in full force in the upcoming spin-off Pokemon Legends: Z-A, a follow-up to 2022’s Pokemon Legends: Arceus that will launch on the Nintendo Switch sometime next year. This has naturally sparked the imaginations of Pokemon fans to come up with Mega Evolution concepts for Pokemon that haven’t gotten one yet, as there are currently only 48 official Mega forms among 46 Pokemon species as of this writing.

An artistic Reddit user by the handle of HertzBurst took this opportunity to share some of their own Mega Evolution concepts on r/pokemon, offering up some interesting ideas for new forms that could be introduced in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. These impressive designs include a molecule-like Mega Electrode with smaller Voltorb-like spheres orbiting around it, a Mega Kleavor with double-bladed axes on its hands, a Mega Jumpluff surrounded by floating cotton balls, a Mega Crowbat with no less than six wings, a Mega Porygon Z with rings and spheres added to its digital form, and a Mega Wobbuffet whose tail has grown into a shadow of its owner.

Pokemon Z-A Spawns Impressive Mega Evolution Concepts

The rest of HertzBurst’s other custom Mega Evolution designs include a fully bloomed Mega Glimmora, a multi-colored Mega Minior, a multi-sectioned Mega Dudunsparce, a tower-like Mega Archaludon, and a Mega Flygon with an extra pair of diamond-shaped wings. There is also a Mega Azumarill covered in bubble-like spheres, a Mega Dragonite with Dragonair’s white head wings and blue crystal orbs, a slimy Mega Goodra, a multi-headed Mega Shuckle, and a Mega Slowking from the Galar region whose shell has taken over half its body.

Reactions to HertzBurst’s Mega Evolution concepts have been quite positive, with other Reddit users saying that they hope to see some of the featured Pokemon get official Mega forms in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The return of Mega Evolutions in the upcoming spin-off has opened the door for plenty of exciting new Pokemon designs, making the wait for Pokemon Legends: Z-A next year all the more nail-biting for fans of Nintendo’s seminal monster-collecting RPG series.
