After being absent from the mainline Pokemon games for several years, Mega Evolution is finally going to make its return in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The upcoming game, which is intended to serve as a direct follow-up to Pokemon X and Y, will feature the mechanic quite prominently, both gameplay and story-wise. The plot of Pokemon Legends: Z-A revolves around a mysterious phenomenon in which Pokemon roaming the streets of Lumiose City have started to turn into their Mega Evolved forms without any apparent reason whatsoever. These unusual Pokemon, called Rogue Mega Pokemon in the game, are wreaking havoc in the city, and it's up to players to stop them using their own Mega Pokemon.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A will bring back many of the Mega Pokemon that were first introduced in the Generation 6 Pokemon games, such as Mega Sableye, Mega Slowbro, and Mega Charizard. While it's not clear if the game will contain all the Mega Pokemon that were featured in those titles, Game Freak has confirmed that it will include some entirely new Mega Evolution forms of its own. The company has recently announced, for example, that the popular Fighting/Flying-type Pokemon, Hawlucha, will be able to Mega Evolve in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
Hawlucha is Getting a Mega Evolution Form in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Hawlucha is a bipedal bird-like Pokemon that was originally introduced in Pokemon X and Y. In those games, it couldn't evolve from or into any other Pokemon, and its stats weren't that impressive. In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, however, players will be able to evolve Hawlucha into the considerably more powerful Mega Hawlucha. On the official Pokemon website, Mega Hawlucha is described as being a muscular Pokemon that likes to show off its own strength and use its signature move, Flying Press, on opponents during battles. While Game Freak has not shared any details about the role that Mega Hawlucha may play in Pokemon Legends: Z-A's story, it already seems pretty clear who this Pokemon’s potential Trainer will be.
To celebrate Mega Hawlucha's debut in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, The Pokemon Company will — in collaboration with the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) — be hosting a Mexican wrestling match in Mexico City, Mexico on September 25.
Korrina Being Mega Hawlucha's Trainer in Pokemon Legends: Z-A Would Make a Lot of Sense
In Pokemon X and Y, Hawlucha is one of the four Pokemon that the Gym Leader Korrina has in her party. Korrina is the head of Shalour Gym, and she specializes in training Fighting-Type Pokemon. Players initially encounter her near the start of the game, when they first make their way to Route 5. Although their initial encounter with her is largely passive, players have to challenge Korrina to a battle two times in a row after they visit Shalour City. Not only do they have to fight her at her Gym in order to obtain the Rumble Badge, they also have to defeat her at the top of the Tower of Mastery so that they can get the Mega Ring, an item that lets them Mega Evolve their Pokemon.
If She's Added to the Game, Korrina Would Be One of Several Returning Characters in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Since Korrina is the Trainer who effectively introduces Mega Evolution to the player in Pokemon X and Y, it would make a lot of sense for her to return in Pokemon Legends: Z-A in some capacity. Due to the fact that this is one of the few direct sequels in the mainline Pokemon franchise, it has already been confirmed that Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature some returning characters from Pokemon X and Y. The mysterious recluse AZ, the suspicious detective Emma, and the former Team Flare member Mable, for example, will all be making an appearance in this game, alongside a handful of new characters
If Korrina does actually show up in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it's possible that she will no longer be a Gym Leader by the time the events of the game take place. All the other returning characters in the game have completely different roles than what they originally had in Pokemon X and Y, so it wouldn't be surprising if this happened in the case of Korrina, as well. Regardless of what Game Freak may decide to do with the character, though, it would be nice if the company allowed players to challenge Korrina to a battle in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, letting them fight Mega Hawlucha in the process.
