Pokemon Legends: Z-A has officially revealed Mega Malamar, making it the second Gen 6 Pokemon to receive a new Mega Evolution ahead of the game's October 16 release. The stream of new Mega Evolution reveals for Pokemon Legends: Z-A has been flowing steadily over the past couple of months, but there are still plenty of Pokemon who have the potential for an upgrade before the game hits Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Just as Pokemon Legends: Arceus took players back to an ancient version of the Sinnoh region introduced in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will take players back to Lumious City, the sprawling, central hub of the Kalos region from Pokemon X and Y. Malamar and its pre-evolved form, Inkay, got their start in this region, so the new Mega Evolution should feel right at home in the capital city.

Mega Malamar is Officially Coming to Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Following up on teases of Mega Malamar released almost a week ago, a new live-action trailer has been released on Pokemon's official social media channels, confirming that it will make its debut in the upcoming spin-off game. This new trailer takes the form of an artificial news report, detailing Malamar's rise in popularity across Lumiose City and the odd effects that its psychic powers are having on its fans. While the news broadcast builds tension, with its actors seemingly hypnotized into falling in love with "my friend Malamar," viewers don't get a good look at the actual Mega Evolved form until the last few seconds of the trailer, showing Malamar to have an elongated torso that scrolls vertically through a glowing rainbow luminescence. Its pair of tentacles each takes on either a green or pink glow, which it spins in an apparent attempt to hypnotize the viewer.

Mega Malamar is the fourth overall Pokemon confirmed to receive a Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and the second in a row to have started out in the Kalos region. Nearly two weeks ago, Pokemon Legends: Z-A revealed Mega Hawlucha, revealing the original Flying/Fighting-type Pokemon in a trailer that saw it winning a wrestling match against a Machamp. Prior to that reveal, the other two official confirmations of new Mega Evolutions were for Mega Dragonite and Mega Victreebel, making Gens 1 and 6 the only two confirmed to be represented in the game's Mega Evolution roster so far.

Mega Malamar Cropped

There have been plenty of other leaked Mega Evolutions for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, including new forms for fully-evolved starter Pokemon Chesnaught, Delphox, Emboar, Feraligatr, and Greninja, though most of the Mega Evolutions revealed through leaks are still waiting on their official confirmation. Close to 30 new Mega Evolutions are expected to be featured in the game, and there is still more than a month left before its launch for Game Freak and Nintendo to show off more.
