Pokemon Legends: Z-A players looking to jump into Ranked Battles online will have a much smoother time in Season 2, as The Pokemon Company announced Mega Delphox will be easier to obtain than previously announced. Additionally, Mega Greninja will be back as a reward in Pokemon Legends: Z-A Season 2, giving trainers a major opportunity to claim two Mega Stones throughout November.
Initially, Mega Greninja and Mega Delphox required Pokemon Legends: Z-A trainers to participate in the game's Ranked Battle mode, which pits up to four players against one another in a free-for-all that lasts three minutes. While initial reception to this method of getting Mega Stones in Pokemon Legends: Z-A was unenthusiastic, some fears were quickly quelled after trainers found out how quickly they could earn points and climb up the ranks. Additionally, Pokemon Legends: Z-A does not penalize players with ranking demotions, which makes the grind less stressful.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A DLC Leak Reveals New Legendary and Mega Evolution Details
Pokemon Legends: Z-A is hit with more leaks regarding its DLC, this time revealing details about Legendary Mega Evolutions.
As time winds down on Pokemon Legends: Z-A's inaugural Ranked Battle season, trainers who missed out will benefit from some planned changes coming in Season 2. The Pokemon Company stated that the Delphoxite needed to Mega Evolve Delphox will now require Rank S rather than Rank K to obtain, as a way to make Ranked Battles more enjoyable for players. Additionally, the Greninjite Mega Stone reward from Season 1 will return as the Rank Y reward in Season 2. Ergo, Pokemon Legends: Z-A trainers will have all of Season 2 to obtain it if they missed out the first time. Season 2 of Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Ranked Battles will run from November 5 to 25, starting and ending at 10:00 PM Pacific. Pokemon Legends: Z-A will also prevent points from decreasing in Ranked Battles, and will adjust points and rewards accordingly.
Along with the changes to Ranked Battle rewards, Pokemon Legends: Z-A confirmed it will launch a November update to address some known issues. During specific side missions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the game could become softlocked if a Pokemon is hit with a move right as the day-night cycle shifts simultaneously. This could cause a glitch that prevents the target Pokemon from taking damage, making certain missions impossible to complete. Another softlock related to Rogue Mega Pokemon and the game's box management system will also be addressed in Pokemon Legends: Z-A's planned November update.
With Pokemon Legends: Z-A getting off to a fast start in sales, it's clear that the latest franchise entry is not slowing down. It remains to be seen what future changes Pokemon Legends: Z-A will make to address any lingering issues.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Ranked Battle Changes And Known Issues (October 30, 2025)
Ranked Battles: Balance Adjustments and Ease of Conditions for Earning Mega Stones as Rewards
To make Ranked Battles more enjoyable for everyone, we will be easing the conditions for earning Mega Stones in addition to making other balance adjustments. See below for specific updates.
Content Adjustments for Season 2
The promotion rewards that grant Mega Stones will be set as follows.
Ranked Battles Season 1
- Rank K promotion reward: Greninjite
Ranked Battles Season 2
- Rank S promotion reward: Delphoxite*
- Rank Y promotion reward: Greninjite**
*The Mega Stone promotion reward that could be earned at Rank K during Season 1 will now be obtainable at Rank S, lowering the reward’s required rank by eight and making the Mega Stone easier to obtain.
**The Greninjite stone that was previously a Season 1 reward for reaching Rank K will be reintroduced in Season 2 as a reward for reaching Rank Y, which is one rank above Rank Z. Mega Stones will continue to be reissued frequently in future seasons.
Planned Adjustments for Upcoming Updates
- To prevent points from decreasing based on match outcomes, we will adjust the points awarded according to ranking.
- We will partially increase and add to the battle rewards received after each match.
Current Known Issues and Planned Fixes
We have confirmed the following issues and plan to fix them in a future update.
- If your Pokémon Boxes become full before the first Rogue Mega Evolution battle and the Boxes menu had not been opened at any point prior to being filled, Pokémon catch attempts will always fail. Additionally, if a side mission that allows you to receive Pokémon is attempted under these conditions, the mission will be completed without granting the Pokémon.
- In certain side missions, if the time of day switches between daytime and nighttime at the exact moment that a move hits its target, it will become impossible to hit the target afterward, rendering the side mission incapable of being progressed further.
These issues are scheduled to be fixed in the update planned for release in November.
